Tony Booth
What a voice he has! I have started buying more and more of his music from Amazon.
Does anyone know who played most of his 60s-70s sessions?
The steeler's style was unique on those oldies and that style is not around today.

Yes and the "heart of texas records" release is Johnny Cox on that. But yep; JD be the man on that early stuff....awesome work.

Just to clarify...
So there's his recent Heart Of Texas CD,"Is This All there is to a Honky-tonk", with great playing (of course!) by Johnny Cox ... Are they following that up with a compilation of some of his old Capitol stuff with Jaydee? Because that sure would be pretty cool, and I'm sure a lot of us would like to hear more...
I couldn't find anything about it in a quick online search... Got a link or more info?

Y'all should definitely get as much of Tony's music as is available. He was California's shuffle king without a doubt, the West Coast Johnny Bush!.
I had the great pleasure of seeing the Tony Booth Band live at the Palomino Club many, many times, from 1969 until I left LA in 1972. A wonderful band making wonderful music!
I also had the pleasure of working with Tony and some of the band at the after-hour jam sessions at the Imperial Inn in Santa Fe Springs CA during that same period.
Tony's excellent band was himself on lead vocals, Jay Dee on steel, Larry Booth on bass, Archie Francis on drums, Norm Kastner on lead guitar, Glen Kastner on rhythm, and Earl Ball on piano. Great musicians!!

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Your cerebral data base is astounding! I've known Tony personally since 1970 and that trivia tidbit was unbeknownst to me. As the youngsters say, "you rock."

Dang! My dad had that album, and at the time, I thought it was too square for me (I was 15, and it was 1977, that's my excuse) I would like to get some Tony Booth stuff for the steel guitar work.Dave Biller wrote:hey Leroy, on the "Keys in the Mailbox" album, with "Corner Bar", "Cinderella", etc. the player is JayDee Maness. Absolutely some of my favorite steel playing of all time! If you don't have that one, you should order it next. Tony is still out there pickin' and he still sounds fantastic.

Graham, I have that album and there is magnificent steel on every cut. I'd always assumed it was JD on the entire album.Graham wrote:A breakdown on the compilation cd just put out by Heart of Texas records:
