Matchbro with a lapsteel...

Post by James Inkster »

Hey guys,

Has anyone had experience using a Matchbro with a lapsteel?
Seems most (all?) of the reviews and comments i've been able to find have been related to their use on a pedal steel... similar, but not the same.

Specifically, i'd be wanting to use it with a bakelite rick.

Alternatively, has anyone had any success getting a somewhat dobro sound with some fancy EQ work?

thanks in advance.

I've used my Matchbro with a 6 string lap steel tuned to the Dobro G tuning. Sounded pretty good.

I've played around with a Boss stompbox eq, alternating the frequency sliders full up or down. Has a similar effect as the 'bro boxes, but is very noisy (sssshhhhhhh-sound). I don't know about Bobbe Seymour's model, but I do know the SuperBro had it's own bit of noise when activated, but to a lesser degree than the Boss pedal trick.

My MatchBro is the original model (with a tone control in the bypass) and it is totally quiet.

I've used a Little Izzy with my lap steel with great success. If it wasn't such an awkward device to use, I'd use it more often.

Thanks guys...

Mike -- I'm confused. I thought the little izzy was used for impedence matching... Is it somehow used for a dobro sound simulation, too?

Sorry, James, don't mind me. I thought a Matchbro was something else.

I`ve used the Match Bro with lap steels succesfully, especially my Asher works great because it is a 25" scale instrument like a dobro and the basic tone is sort of "acoustic like".
For more fun split the signal with a DI to the PA and a guitar amp...

I've used a $25 Behringer eq with the alternating slide routine and it isn't noisy. By tweaking it a bit I can get a sound good enough to where spending ten times as much isn't worth it.
