I want a little more power.......

I have a NV 112 and I love everything about it; but in some situations I could use more power. I'm thinking NV 1000 but what about a Session 400 or Nashville 400 or Session 500. Which will sound the most like my 112 but have that extra punch when I'm fighting with the rest of the band? The 112 can get loud enough but I think I'm loosing clarity when I have to crank it.
Lots of Peavey's on the forum for sale. Which would most sound like the 112? Thanks, Greg

Greg, The NV112 is a great, little amp. It works really well (out front) when miced, but you'll need it turned up in the monitors to hear what's comin out on the stage. I mostly use my Session 500 (weighs a ton) and rarely need it in the monitors at all.

It's a trade off,I have owned a 500,400's.400 LTD'S,Fender twins,been playing the 112 for about three years,it has never failed to do the job,inside or outside,NO it does'nt have the punch of one of the monster amps,BUT the weight difference was the selling point for me,and my old worn out back thanks me every time,I have to move it a LOT.I don't need a forklift to get it on stage,years ago would play a club sometimes months at a time,IF that were the case now,and did'nt have to move it two or three times a week,would use a big amp,my two favorites were the 500 or the twin with JBL'S. but no more,the little 112 does the job for me. just get a cheap used nashville 400...all the power you'll ever need. fairly heavy but pretty small..cheaper and better than a 112.

The last amp I used before my 112 was a 400 LTD. GREAT sounding amp,BUT had to use a hand truck,also if the stage was 4 or 5 feet tall had to have help with it,I only wished the 112 had been around forty years ago,maybe would'nt be walking sideways today,of course back in the 60's lugging around a B3 and Leslie did'nt help much either. geez charlie...you must be gettin' old...i still use my ltd400 regularly.. have a nv400 also but prefer the ltd....admittedly though, it is getting heavier at 61yrs for me...
don't ya need more blasting power for sweet home alabama, though?

Greg NV 112 = $400.00 x 2 = $800.00 ! You can Buy a good Used Webb For $800.00 225 watts and It Has every one Of them, You wont be drowned out by the Tele and strat Rock players anymore! Randy Gilliam

Chris,when I was a young whippersnapper like you I could grab a Pro 3 in one hand,a 500 in the other hand and run up three flights of stairs,[ wait about ten years] Play a lot of Southern rock,Sweet Home EVERY night,just kick in my BOSS D-S 1. my 112 handles it,It LOVES ABB and SKYNARD. DYK?BC.

How do they compare in approximate clean usable power out? Cost? Weight?

Hi Greg,
Back in my playing days, I always used 2 Session 500's.
I had to carry one in each hand to keep balanced.
It was the best sound you'd ever want to hear on a steel.
I still have a Session 500, but can't lift it off the floor now.
Now I use a NV1000 and NV112 and their great together.

I actually have a NV1000 and have been thinking of looking for a nv112 to trade for. The nv100 is big n heavy hauling up my stairs!

Considering the price, size and enough clean sounding volume it would hard to beat a NV 400. You can buy one any day for around $300 and they have a 15" speaker which when it comes to PSG the 12" speakers just can't sound as good.

Your right Bo,there is a difference in the 12 and 15,BUT for the last three years I have been playing the 112, not ONE person in the audience has came to the bandstand and said [THAT 12'' SPEAKER SUCKS].As I stated before IF I had a sitdown job that would last for weeks or months I WOULD use a big amp,But in my case may play three or four jobs a week,all in a different place,when you have to tear down,set up,load everything in the belly of a bus it's hard,Have played a D-10 for years,MSA d-10 CLASSIC,about two months traded it for a MSA S-10,It and the 112 makes a BIG difference,for an old geezer like me.When I get famous enough to afford a roadie will go back to the D-10 and a pair of 500's,that will be a few days from now. If you want light and plenty of power, try a rack mount preamp and one of TC Furlongs powered speakers -- lightweight and with about 500 Watts of grunt !

he has them available in both 12" and 15" configurations.

I'd go for the Peavey LTD. It's the same as a Session 400 but in a smaller cabinet. I think it weighs very close to the NV-112 but more than twice the power and I'd say it's at least as good if not better for tone. We've been having this same discussion over in Electronics for more info on this subject. The NV-112 is 43 pounds, the Nashville 400 is 60, the old Session 400 is 58,the Session 500 is 300 watts and about 75 pounds (just guessing). I've got to have at least 200 watts and sometimes I wish I had more.

Pull the head out of the NV400 put in in a rack then use the headless amp as the cabinet. That will lighten it up.
