Probably an old-style 705 with the chrome surround, built by Bill Lawrence. But there were identical-looking 505, 605, and 805 pickups. In this thread, John Fabian detailed the differences in resistance and inductance for the different models: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=129179
You should be able to zero in exactly which one you have by simply measuring the DC resistance with an Ohmmeter.

BL Pickups
Bob,
I have Bl 710's in my Franklin and 705's in my Rittenberry!
I think that the 710's have a more mellow tone and the 705's have more of the bell tone.
I really like the bell tone sound; I know that Gary Rittenberry does a lot to his guitar to make it have the bright tone.
There again, I've seen other players that put different pickups on each neck. Hal Rugg had a Franklin and he put a different BL pickup on the C6th and a different BL on the E9th. It's all the individuals ear.
I know a few players the use the George L E66's in an all wood guitar. They say it brightens up the guitar; there again,it's a personal touch.

Tommy,
Do you know what BL pickup Hal Rugg used on the C6th and E9th respectively.
I would assume they both looked the same, but were different winds.
Thanks, sorry if I'm robbing the thread, but I would like to know his set up.
I think my guitar has both 705's, but if there are differences that aren't visual, I might meter them and check.

Follow Dave's link. That's the only way to tell.Dave Mudgett wrote:Probably an old-style 705 with the chrome surround, built by Bill Lawrence. Zach, my comment wasn't directed at you particularly, just a confirmation of what Dave posted since they all look the same. I remember the early 505 was cased in a rosewood enclosure, though. I had a 705 and 805 [back neck] at one time on an Emmons, but the 805 was really heavy sounding. I liked the 705 on both.
As far as Hal's setup, I wish I had some knowledge about that.
Maybe one of Hal's close buddies will see this and know the answer. I miss seeing and hearing his fabulous playing.
Happy pickin'
