Personally, I have nothing against T-Pain, Def Leppard, Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, or the B52s. That said, and even though some of them were present apparently at the request of one of country's latest singing sensations 19 year-old Taylor Swift, I don't believe any of them had any business at the Country Music Television Awards last night. I also don't think "Werewolves of London" belonged there, nor can I answer Kid Rock's rhetorical question, "What's more creative than a strip pole on a pontoon boat?" This would have all been fine I suppose in the context of say, an MTV awards show or the like, but what's any of it doing on the Country Music Television Awards show on CMT? Only my opinion, but this kind of genre-mixing just rubs me the wrong way, big time.

Barry,
Be honest. Did you really expect anything different out of the mixed up Nashville music industry? I think country music is past the point of no return in Nashville. Due to this allowing rock and rap acts to jump on the country wagon, country music is rapidly losing its identity.
When it's all over, and the music is lost, they won't have anyone to blame but themselves, and the ones that followed them down this path.
I've given up. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. Nashville does not seem to be interested in being the "Home Of Country Music" any longer.
Tracy Pitcox, and the other guys that have a dedication to country music, should go ahead and take over the remains and try to salvage what they can out of it.

If there is one small ray of hope and light in this stampede to mediocrity, it's Brad Paisley. The guy can play, he can sing, much of what he records could be mistaken for country!! And he hires steel guitar players!!!
Anyway, one way to vote with the wallet is to buy his stuff, and I will continue to try to dissuade my daughters from buying any more "T-Swizzle."
YMMV

I tried to watch, but could'nt take too much, when I first turned it on,thought I was watching a rock and roll burlesque show, the ONLY thing I saw that reminded me of country was Dierks Bentley's DOG. These [so-called] country awards shows gets worse each year. Did hear a little steel here and there,Seems some of these[rock] country bands use steel hidden behind the screaming rock guitars so they can say,hey look we are country,we have a steel guitar on stage.DYK?BC.

No disrespect, but Brad Paisley doesn't do anything for me, but by contrast, I guess he's closer to country than Def Leppard or Kid Rock....... but he's a long way from Darrell McCall and Jack Greene.
If you like the Nashville music, have at it. Again, my problem is not with the music, it's the referring to it as country music when it is not. I'm not going to say anymore about this. It's a waste of time and mental power.
Besides, I've got a new puppy to play with. He's a German Shepherd. Not a Collie that calls himself a German Shepherd. Not a Lab that got tired of being a Lab and tried to act like a German Shepherd. Not a German Shepherd that thinks playing with the cats makes him a cat. He's the real deal and happy to be what he is. Me too.

Alvin you are right in what you're saying, thats one forum or roots of it.Alvin Blaine wrote:My point is that it's not anything new.
It has gone on since the very first person played the very first country song. It was more than likely a cross between some Irish fiddle tune, English folk balled, and some slave inspired gospel tune, but they called it a COUNTRY SONG.
My Dad always said " Give me a good Tarantella, thats real country music".
My point is ,who has real ownership of country music? If you call it country and are saying that people are wrong calling it country music just because they play a different forum or different roots or have no roots of their music, you are wrong saying it. It's their country music and have the right to call it Country Music. Joe

Wait a minute. CMT stands for Country Music Television? Who knew?
Fearless Leader had RBTV - Really Bad Television. I just assumed that CMT was a similar acronym.

What is COUNTRY MUSIC? If the Rolling Stones had a steel player and sang about a train that would make it country, or a leak in your tire and have a bad week. Looks like there's no room for liberals in country musicBarry Blackwood wrote:Using that logic, Joe, I guess the Rolling Stones and their fans could call what they do country music - after all, they have the right. It's their country music and have the right to call it Country Music. Rick, you are right, that's what gets me to bitching calling this very poor attempt at 70's rock,[country] For the one's that like it and think it's country,THAT'S FINE.They have EVERY right to do so,Just wish they would find another label for it, CCR,the Eagles,Poco, etc was far closer to country music than anything out there today,And yes that beautiful pup of your's is FAR more important than who won what on this satirical comedy called the CMA. The only channel I can find any REAL country on is the RFD CHANNEL. I remember when country music died in NV,it was when they killed the old NASHVILLE NETWORK,Has not been ANY country music in [MUSIC CITY ?] SINCE. You can see the real thing on broadway,NOT on the Pop and Rock show called the GOO. DYK?BC.

The CMT awards: Where aging rockers go when they're no longer relevant in their genre.
"Love Shack" on the CMT awards......it was funny, you have to admit. As they say, one person's tragedy can sometimes be another person's comedy.
