Yeah, that Fender is falling apart. I "played" it the last time I did the ACM's with Big & Rich. I think that was 2007. They wrapped white gaffers tape around it to make it appear white. I think it had a couple broken strings. Funny as hell if you ask me.

Bob -

"Piece of...."

So it was a prop - No reason to call the instrument a piece of...dung. Unless you feel it's beneath you to appear near such a pathetic excuse for an instrument.

That's how it comes across.

Dave - if it's in such bad shape...even used as a prop...why wouldn't some steel player feel it might be beneficial...even fun...to fix it up a bit? Heck, it *might* even be playable. Or is the whole environment so fake nobody gives a darn?
No chops, but great tone

Not to me. No need to attack Paul or his Dad, either.

Sounds personal, Jim?

Hi Jim,

I don't know where the Fender comes from, must be in a package of rental stuff for the ACM's. It would work fine if someone worked on it, but I think it fun to mime great tracks with something in such pathetic shape. I think it was a CMA award show where Jim Bob (with Chesney) set up an old Electroharp to mime with. Good stuff if you ask me.

You all are just jealous 'cause after all the money you spent on guitars, they didn't rent your guitar for a prop.

Sometimes artists and producers feel more comfortable with tracks on tv shows because of the obvious ease of control of the audio. The singers are live .
As far as the rental steels go, none of them are playable. I played the fender because I didn't want to drag my good steel across the country for a three minute appearance. Paul was rehearsing with George Strait at another facility so he played whatever.
We all made good money for our three minutes of deception. In Paul's case he was fakin his own parts. I thought it was funny that we all played the crappy Fender.
I actually own a Fender but I would much rather play the Franklin steel that I own , or my Zum or my Push Pull. They are much better instruments.

They pre-recorded the Grammys when I was there. One time they told me I didn't even have to show up so I went down to Orange County and played with Chris Gaffney at the Canyon Inn instead.

Maybe if I could spell and punctuate better I could get a real job instead of selling out.

I've seen that same ole worn out Fender at the ACM's, CMA's and the AMA's. It gets around.

Yes, but that guitar is a single 12 isn't it? No way that would have been believeable to the average ACM viewer!

At first gave them a single 12 but they called back and said "This one has only one thing on it. Do you have a steel pedal with two things on it?" so I gave them the double 12.

OK, let's say a guy really busts his butt half his life or more to get good enough to run with the big dogs, only to realize that someone else will be doing the master sessions and someone else will be doing the tracks to which he will be "playing" to onstage, and so on. To me that's ironic, to others it might sound something like sour grapes, . . .
Reminds me of days in sales, when we all agreed, "The closer to company HQ, the further away from reality."

...what a bunch of sellouts...
...irony often pays well...
Where exactly is the "sellout" waiting list? I've been trying to get on that one for a while. :D

I thought the more the gig paid, the more irony was involved? :whoa: .

I always get to play "MY" licks on a $50 gig...
