Bill Stroud and BJS Bars

Post by Michael McNeill »

I have been meaning to pick up a BJS Bar for some time now. One thing after another kept preventing me from doing it. My Day Job is a Heart Attack waiting to happen.

I looked at the BJS Web Site one evening last week after getting home from a road trip. I was real tired and should have gone to bed. I saw a picture of the Bar but, my tired eyes did not make out the stone in the nose of the bar.

I wrote Bill Stroud a dumb _ _ _ email asking about what end of the Bar the stone went into and how do I order one, Because I was too tired to figure it out for myself.

Bill wrote me back with a number to call. I spoke to Mrs Stroud 1st and asked her what color stones looked best and she gave me her opinion, Then I talked to Bill who was a perfect gentleman. I enjoyed the pleasant conversation so much, I ordered a Steelers Choice Seat and a Bar and felt good about the whole thing.

Bill called me the next day worried because he had given me a wrong price on the shipping. We talked about playing steel and Bill insisted on trowing in some other items to make up for the small amount he had over charged for shipping. Then he called me back with Tracking information.

What a pleasant experience! I think my stuff will arrive tomorrow. I know I will love everything i purchased from Bill.

I wish I lived closer to Tennessee because there are some people I have met through the Forum that I would like to drive over and see, just to say Hello.

There are some really beautiful people that visit this site. I have to deal with some that are not so pleasant all week long. You guys are great.

Have a pleasant evening,

Mike

BJS Bar

Post by Michael McNeill »

Hello Bill,

The Seat and bar came yesterday afternoon. I was dead tired after work but I had to try it out. I ended up playing for 2 hours. You were right about the 9/16" Bar. It is "different". Can't describe it. I found my self using a slightly different technique with my left hand. Sounds better/ cleaner I think.

Thanks for everything. Great stuff, and I am very happy to make your aquaintance.

Have a great day,

Mike

OK, I gave up the resistance and caved in. I faxed an order up to Bill this afternoon. I'll be anxiously awaiting my new bar - the 7/8 x 3 3/8 plain nose version. Last night I was at the Florida Steel Guitar Club Jam. Before the show and during break I noticed darned near every bar I saw laying on a steel was a BJS. One of my friends let me hold his one day recently and I was quite impressed. No sense in waiting any more. This one will replace a couple of 27-28 year old Jim Dunlop bars.

As far as I'm concerned Bill Stroud makes the finest steel guitar bar in the world. He is also a class individual with outstanding customer service. I wouldn't use anything else. They ain't cheap, but they are the best, and I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

I got my BJS bar from Gerry Hogan here in England. It's a 15/16 and for a 10 string even though I play a universal 12 string. Bill's bars are the best I've ever used and the bigger size of the 15/16 feels more comfortable. Bill's a good man to deal with....sent me for free a new Evans logo for my amp as the one I had had seen better days :)

Bill,

You have another very satisfied customer! Ordered it last Tuesday, arrived on Friday. It is such a joy to play, seems to have an extra sizzle on the high end, but is very full sounding and smoove, just the way I like it! Really makes me want to sit down and PLAY!

Best,

Julian

Got it - Love it!

Post by Ken Mizell »

Got my order today (7/8 x 3 3/8 plain nose). Excellent bar. I love it. It's slick and flawless, with a nice little draw string bag as a bonus. I love the weight and feel. I haven't been able to play with it yet, since my right arm is in a sling from shoulder surgery. It hasn't been fun sitting around here looking at my lonely steel sitting there, and not being able to practice. Great service - I ordered on 2/12, it shipped on 2/13, arrived on 2/17 (delayed by Presidents Day and no USPS delivery). My wife keeps wondering how much more "steel stuff" I'm going to buy - well, I'm done buying bars, that's for sure. :)
