GSGA - It's been a good 16 years

Post by Doug Rolfe »

After 16 years of promoting a steel guitar show featuring gospel music, it’s time to give it a rest. We tried to do the best we could to put on a good show with great talent and super pickers. We’ve had some of the best regionally and nationally know talent around to be a part of the show. It would be impossible to name all of the names of those who have contributed to the show across the years, so I just want to say thanks to all of those who have given of themselves to help us make this the best show we knew how with the limited budget that we had to work with. Many have sacrificed greatly to help the show and for that we will be forever grateful. We have been blessed to get to know so many great people.

We will keep the web site (www.gospelsteel.com) for now and will continue to sell DVD’s from the past shows. You can order them on the web from us or on this forum from b0b. I will also hold on to the name (Gospel Steel Guitar Association).

We still plan to be at Scotties in St. Louis with a booth and continue to sell our products as long as we can afford to do it, plus there will always be free coffee as long as we are there.

There are no plans for a 2009 show but Rob McKeithen and Albert Svenddal are looking into the possibility of doing a show in 2010. They will keep you all updated as to their plans.

Again thanks to all who gave of their time and talents to make this the best show we could.

Thanks Doug and Stevie for all you've done to promote this great gospel show over the past sixteen years. I am proud to have been a small part of this show and the many blessings and friendships Barbara and I have recieved has been our reward.
God Bless you both and we'll see you in St. Louis,

Doug, I can not even begin to thank you enough for what you have done to promote the steel guitar and even more, the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You have been both a great friend and a good mentor for me. Let's look forward by faith and see what God does to keep the GSGA going.

Doug and Stevie,

We are sorry to hear there will be no Gospel show this year. We have been honored to be a part of this the past few years. You are such wonderful and sweet people. I hope we can at least meet up with you at some other steel shows.

Doug & Stevie,

So sorry to hear that you are calling it quits with the Gospel Show, but I completely understand why. I want to thank you for letting us be a part of the show for many years now. May God bless you for the efforts you have put forward for so many years. Hope to see you in St. Louis.

Each of you are special and we hope to continue to see all of you from time to time. We plan on being in St. Louis, so stop by our booth and "sit a spell". Rob and Albert are serious about doing a show in 2010.

I'm really gonna miss those cookies! We had some great times...thinking of how much Hal Rugg enjoyed the show and it was John Hughey's favorite. There are a lot of shows that are falling or about to fall from the scene...sometimes as musicians we don't realize the great cost it was not only for those putting on the show but the people attending...travel, lodging, food and tickets for a weekend is quite expensive. I know our pathes will cross often..thanks Doug and Stevie for the memories!

Hopefully we'll see many of you down the road. Pat, Stevie has always enjoyed baking and providing treats for others. She makes the best chocolate chip cookies.
Thanks again to all who have posted.
I sit here today with a lump in my throat knowing that we'll not be doing a show this year and you all will be greatly missed.

Doug, I just want you to know that we appreciate so much the opportunity you gave us to become a part of your Gospel Steel Event. I hesitate to call it a show because it was so much more than a show. We are so happy that we were a part of it. My only regret is that you didn't capture my amazing bar throwing event on tape.
