A Note About Jim Palenscar

Post by Mickey Adams »

I have been in San Diego for the last 3 days. I looked up my friend Jim Palenscar at Steel Guitar of North County in Oceanside this week. After spending the first evening listening to Jims band, and noodling around on electric, I came back to spend most of Thursday in the shop learning lots of new things, and scattering his toys about his shop like a kid. For those of you that arent familiar with Jim, he's a great resource for gear and pedal steel guitar know-how, and just a fine all around human being. If youre visiting LA, San Diego or anywhere in between, be sure and stop in and spend some time...Jim thanks for the hospitalilty, and look forward to seeing you again soon..Mickey

I look forward to the day I can visit the shop I bought my EMCI from. First class operation to do business with by phone. Jim took the time to make sure my steel was in tip top shape before it left his shop, and it is everything he said it was. Very reassuring for a newbie buying his first pro steel.

Jim is awesome, and his shop is awesome, too. One of the nicest people I know, smart and straight-up. His work is first-class. Going to Jim's is a pleasure and always educational. I don't know what we do without him! I gotta get down there :D !

A trip to Jim's shop is an "E ticket" ride for sure!
I call it "Steel Guitar Disneyland" and I have gone so far as making a friend wait outside so I could get a good view of his jaw dropping to the floor when he came in the door for the 1st time!
Thinking I need to head south soon now that you mention it......:)

Me too. My MSA is well on its way to becoming a surf steel, and I like to picture it and me in Oceanside, where it came from.
Someday....
But being so far away, Jim, how can I get a hat?

Hey Charlie, when you surf with that MSA, make sure you take the legs and pedal bar off. You can catch much bigger waves that way!

Charlie (Theloneus),

A crowd is already forming on the beach outside of Jim's shop. The anticipation of watching you catch a big wave on your steel guitar is attracting a lot of country music fans. Check out this crowd. :)

BTW, If you've used WD-40 as a lube for your steel. Be extra careful, because they say it attracts sharks :P

Cowabunga Dude!

My visit to Oceanside

Post by Ted Nesbitt »

I was in California in June and happened to spend a few days in the Oceanside area, so I stopped by Jims store to say hello. Great floor display of steel guitars,a real nice welcome from Jim, and met one of my Hero,s ..... the one and only JD Maness, who was in the store during my visit. Hope to see you again sometime Jim.

I'm kind of wondering about the fire situation and Oceanside, as it looks pretty red on the national map.

Jimbo how natural you look peeking thru the rods.....
I've had the pleasure of knowing Jim quite awhile and he is undoubtedly a dealer to trust. I always enjoy my visits with Jim, either at a show or when I can go back to Ca. and stop in.
