To me, it's not a melody or a lyric thing, it's more a style and delivery issue. His "Opry" debut country song 'Don't Think I Don't Think About It' had the modern NCS melody and chord changes, but even with the country backup - it just didn't sound country (to me, anyway).Theresa Galbraith wrote:I heard melody in both songs by Darius on the GOO.
Everytime I turn on the radio, I hear melody.
Of course, most of today's NCS doesn't come across to me as "real country". Maybe he'll do some real country songs, eventually.

The "country" music industry continues to take on anyone they think they can make a dollar on. I've never heard a Hootie song and never will. Just not my thing. It just amazes me that people accept all these so called "country" stars on the GOO.
And then we have so many excellent country singers in Texas (such as Amber Digby) and other places that will probably never have the opportunity to be on the GOO.
Something is just not right here. And just because it has a steel guitar in it, doesn't make it country.
I'm just tired of the crap and therefore I'm not going to accept what most everyone else does.
Think I'll go listen to my Leona Williams CD now.

It's Official -- A Darius Double Dip: The first round of really awesome news for Capitol recording artist Darius Rucker came Monday (Sept. 22), when he topped the R&R country chart with "Don't Think I Don't Think About It." As Wade Jessen, senior director of charts for R&R and swami of all things musical, pointed out, Rucker became the first solo act in 21 years to lead the R&R chart after gaining initial stardom outside the format. Some of you may remember Michael Johnson doing it with back-to-back No. 1s in 1987 with "Give Me Wings" and "The Moon Is Still Over Her Shoulder." Johnson was already famous for his signature pop hit, "Bluer Than Blue," from 1978. Rucker, of course, was the frontman for Hootie & the Blowfish, whose hits included "Let Her Cry" and "Only Wanna Be With You," both from 1995's "Cracked Rear View," a multi-million seller that just about every red-blooded American owned at one point or another. Part two of Rucker's really great roll came today; his debut country album, "Learn to Live," is No. 1 on the country album chart after selling over 60,000 units in his first week. It also clocks in at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Oh ... and there's one more piece of good news for Rucker, just handed to us: Apparently, he just saved a ton of money on car insurance by switching to Geico!

No Theresa, I love change a lot of times. What I don't love is when a non-country artist tries to sing country and it fails as country music.Theresa Galbraith wrote:I understand you guys don't like change.
Shucks, Ray Charles did a country album, even had Emmons on a couple of cuts. Now, Ray was a great singer, but to me - he didn't come off as any more country on his album than Dean Martin did on his "country album".
