Jimbeaux w/Hair & First Pedal Steel (Gibson Electraharp)

Post by Jim Cohen »

Just came across this old photo from 1972 with my first pedal steel, a Gibson Electraharp I bought from Scotty, my first teacher. (Careful observers will also note the fringed jacket; must have gotten that idea from Neil Young...)

Is that a Fender tuning pan? Cool looking axe. At first I thought you were left-handed.

Amp??? Univox, Alamo, Teisco??? You must have spent all your money on the guitar.

What did you play in the marching band...I see the letters.

Great pic.

Yah, was a Univox. What did I know? It made noise, that's all I knew.

As for the 'FROSH' letters, I'm baffled myself. I think I played on the tennis team one year but can't imagine what the others are for. Not in the marching band, but I might have played trombone in the concert band the one year that I dabbled in trombone.

Jim, I had a triple neck autoharp back in the late 50"s. Then I went to a fender one thousand.

If you look closely at the letter on the right..it has "BAND" written on it. That is why I asked.

No, that's the T-shirt I pulled off just before the photo, to capture that Macho look. Effective, don't you think?

You bought that from Scotty? He saw you coming. My first was an Electraharp, too. Found it in the attic of a music store in Belleville, Illinois. Mine was white though so I doubt it sounded as good as your sunburst.

That is a good looking guitar, I like the sunburst. I'd like to make an offer on that sneaker if you still have it and it's mate.

Yah, I think he was happy to finally find someone to take it home. I didn't know any better anyway and, besides, it was the only one in the shop I could afford at the time, so it served its purpose.

Jim-I know why you never liked that Model Gibson Electra-Harp. I tried one at the factory and didn't like it either, so kept my Original 1942 Gibson Electra-Harp. I took the heavy cabinet off it and put it on a metal stand. No case of course. It had a better changer, was almost like the Multi-Kord that came out later. 8 strings, 6 pedals. E6

Here is a picture, but I dont have a picture with the old cabinet. I got one of the old cabinet that somenone sent me, I'll see if I can find it...al.:)

J.C on gibharp

Jim, I used one of those someone lent to me when I was without back around'76. Never could figure out how to lower the with pedals. It appeard to be impossible. I used first two pedals and tuned to D9th. I also had to have a post to counter-act the horizontal movement when engaging the pedals. Quite a beast. Raise all the strings with one pedal. Don D.
