Feb 8 steel jam in L.A.
This is to remind all you west coast players that there will be a steel jam in Los Angeles on Feb 8. The jam will take place at the El Arco Iris restaurant, 5684 York Blvd, in the Highland Park section of the city, from 11 AM till 8 PM.
I'll post directions in a day or two. There are several motels in the area for those who are coming from out of town.
I hope to see you all there. Please E-mail me and let me know if you're coming.

Mike has prepared directions in another post that he has.
Also, FYI: www.mapquest.com can look up an address, show a map, and print out directions to that location.

You know, drinking, gambling, brawling, all the usual stuff. What will be happening there?
Seriously, a bunch of players ranging from the very best in town to the guy who started playin 2 weeks ago, will sit in a circle and take turns soloing over cumputer generated rhythym tracks.
This is a free event. Nobody pays to attend, nobody gets paid. It's just for the opportunity for us all to meet each other and make some noise together.
Those of you who are coming, please bear three things in mind.
1- The restaurant is giving us the use of it's banquet room for free, but they expect us all to order our meals from them. If this works out well for them, this will become an annual event. Please don't bring any food from the outside.
2- The Parking lot is extremely small. The restaurant's owner has asked that after we unload our gear, we all move our cars and park on the street.
3- The room itself doesn't have a lot of AC outlets. If you have a spare power strip(s) please bring it/them.

Mike I hope to come tthat way as soon as the Texas Show is over. Keep us informed if there is anything going on steel guitarwise. I will be traveling from L.A to Reno searching family roots. All my Dad's side of the family came to Califorina in the 30's and 40's.
I don't know if they got so rich that they did not want to associate with us poor folks they left behind or if they got out there and could never save up enough money to come back.
I am coming out to find out before they are all gone.

Has anybody checked to see how much amperage is available, coming out of the plugs and are they on separate circuits? My Evans shuts down if it doesn't get what it wants, now that I think about it, so did the last ex....hmmm I think I detect a pattern here.... 3- The room itself doesn't have a lot of AC outlets. Sorry I missed the jam. I went to Highland Park and to York Blvd. I couldn't find the resturaunt though.... I must have cruised up and down York from 5500 - 5600 block 14 times..
I spent the day in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Hollywood Hills and Burbank then I got on the 101 south and took the 110 Pasedena Fwy to HP.
I guess I will have to go to the next one.
Thanks for the invite Mike!

First, I want to thank all who came. We had a great time.
I especially want to thank Jim Baron and Mike Brebes. Jim, for supplying the computer generated rhythym tracks. and Mike for bringing the P.A.
Tim, I'm really sorry you couldn't find the placer. The next time we do this, I'll have a cell phone, and give everybody the number so if anybody has a similar problem they can call.
And finally, I'm happy to say that there WILL be a next time. The owner of the restaurant loved having us. She loved the music, and the fact that she sold about 20 extra meals didn't hurt either.
She had never seen a pedal steel guitar before, and during the lunch break I showd her the instruments and played something. She loved the sound.
We now have a PERMANENT place in L.A. to hold these jams. I don't know how often we can do this, but I'll talk to her soon about scheduling one sometime in July. I think we can make this a semi-annual event.

I thought it was great as well, nice to see old friends, John, Mark and Mike, and meet some new ones as well, Jim Eaton, sorry I couldnt stick around but you sounded pretty good, I would recommend for those who attended but did not play to "Jump into the Water" the next time around and come "off the Porch" Kudos to Mike Perlowin for putting it all together, John McLung for the pics and for the elder statesmen (you know who you are) for playing the Heck outta it..
