Jessica Simpson Come on Over

Post by Bo Legg »

Jessica Simpson Come on Over.
Boy I've never heard such unjust criticism of a performer in my live including here on the Forum. Since when did PSG players become such knowledgeable judges of who can sing and who can’t? Coming from the most chronic played out of pitch instrument on the stage (the PSG) I find this ironic.
She has a hit country CD and a PSG on the CD and in her band and that alone makes her (in my book) a great singer and as country as a sh t sandwich. Try hitting these notes in pitch on your PSG much less with your voice.

I think the song is pretty good and I think JS is a pretty good singer, nice 'narly sound. I would love to see her and her band in a barroom , I'll bet they kick...

Not sure why PSG players would diss her, she could have easily done her live TV shows WITHOUT a Steel .

51 years of playing music, I think I'm capable of telling country from pop....I say she is not country
I think she could with the right song and band.

The closest she's ever been to sounding country was when her cats' tail got under the rocker. people actually pay some one to teach them to scream like that. Go figure.

If Simpson did a country album, then it is country, case closed. Country music is country music, no matter how much styles change or who sings it.

still not sure why PSG players diss her, we complain when bands tour or record without a Steel and then we complain when they do !

I too have been playing music for multiple decades, just like countless members here. What exactly is the definition of Country Music or a Country singer ?

So, here's the question, JS comes to your town and needs a fill in player and you get the call..
Are you doing it or telling her NO, I'll pass.

Me, I'm there...and I'm even gonna wear a clean T-Shirt :)

It's obvious that the guys in the video are actors. I'm sure they're not her band. It's good to hear any steel in a promoted recording these days. Steel guitar never stops amazing me. Some of the best steel is being recorded today. If the producer had called you to do the Jessica Simpson session, would you have said "No". I think not! How can players accept steel like Robert Randolph, The Rolling Stones, and Jerry Garcia, and not praise this effort. Jessica looks and sings as good as anyone out there today. It's no secret, I love the traditional country sound. But, you can't sell what you can't give away. Our instruments are being heard today because producers have the good sense to broaden our audience. Eddie Arnold and Ray Price were both scorned for embracing a more modern sound and now we all praise them as legends. Let's cut Jessica some slack. At least she's not on stage with water coming down on everything like Taylor Swift. What's that about, anyway?
Thank you for your time.

Dennis, I'm not as old as you, nor do I play country music. But I've listened to a lot of country music, from Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family to Keith Urban and Sugarland. Sure, the styles have changed over that seventy year period, but it's still country.

Might I add that the Pedal Steel Guitar is one of the most difficult instruments known to man-kind.You have to have knowledge of tone and pitch.
Besides that all.......you don't have to be a PSG player to hear that she(Jessica) sings worth a CR*P.
I have heard cats miauw with more harmony then that. That's not singing....that's raping a microphone.Just because her B*tt looks nice does not mean that she can sing. Her rear-end sold 92% of her records. The other 8% of the buyers must've been deaf, dumb and blind.

I don't really care how many of her you-tube clips people put up.It won't change my opinion.
I'll take the cat's.

In all fairness she must be doing something right as she's out there singing and we are here writing about it....:}
Maybe we should practise more and use our stair masters?
Its just gotta be easier to be happy for everybody.

True enough when you're on FM... But I would add that todays's pop is yesterday's irresponsible teenage boy.

I have always liked the way Jessica comes across in the media. I hope her success continues for years to come. She seems like a sweet young lady (okay, she's hot!) and I'm glad she's using a PSG.

This is an absolutely outrageous statement that is completely unfair to Jessica's work ethic and overall talent.

In my opinion her rear end is only responsible for 45% of her sales.

Clearly, the remaining 55% (or 47%, adjusted for the 8% sense impaired) can be attitributed to her front.

I hope she does well, and continues using steel! :)
I'd rather hear her sing than Taylor, or Sugarland right now.
