Not my first but the oldest with me playing steel, the band was Kinda Country, the show was us winning the Tennessee Trophy at Wimbeldon south London in 1975. We also got a recording contract plus £200 prize money, we beat 400 acts over a year of competition.
the steel was a Fuzzy...

Nice shot(s) John! Was the Fuzzy steel the forerunner to the Excell? I'd heard that the same guy made them.......JH in Va.

Sorry for the duplicate post on the first band photo thing. Gotta love those pics though. But I was wondering about when you first knew that you wanted to be a musician, or entertainer. And you could not escape the desire.

A montage of the same group of people over a 45 yr. period. We still play together about once a year.

(Those of you with frail health might want to look away from that round thing covered in vellum.) :whoa: :whoa:

Alan I see you were multi-talented in several instruments. Not surprising given your building of many types of instruments.

I was playing with both of these bands at the same time. The pictures were taken in two different San Francisco bars, in '76 & '78. (Funny how I can date photos by looking at my equipment. I wonder how many of us can do that...)

Bass player works just like a drum, you just need to hit it.

Post by JOZEF SMITH »

This picture was made in 1965. I (behind the steel)am the only one who is still playing in a band.

The next picture is the band I am with since 1998.

I reluctantly post this embarrassing pic but since all y'all have here goes. I was proud of my just learned barre chord and although I was was on A7 and the other guy was on B it didn't matter since I wasn't plugged in at the time. The carnival was my first gig and I was pretty nervous, this was my very first time that my name was misspelled also. 1966

Genuine Country

Post by Carl Williams »

Here's a '75 photo of "my" first band...Our name was "Genuine Country". We were all military except Jenny our Bass Player. We had the good fortune of backing Little Jimmy "Tater" Dickens for two shows on Fort Richardson, Alaska (Anchorage). (I'm the tall, then skinny kid on the left).. :)

I love your hair, John. Oh, to be young again, with the experience we have now...
Here is my first (and only) band where I played steel full time. It lasted from 1980 to 1983.
