If I could narrow my favorite music down to just one anything, I would probably get disenchanted with music very quickly. A major part of the charm is that music is not amenable to this kind of analysis, which forces me to feel, and not analyze. I can feel "I like it" or "I don't like it", but can't put any metric on it. I consider that a blessing.

Pappa Joe,
Even if Donald duck had recorded it I would still love it. :)
Ray Stevens recording was especially nice,J.D,'s steel playing was classic.
Best regards

C'mon, Dave. Don't be such a stick in the mud. :D We all understand about feelings. Pick a song just to be your favorite for now. Just for purposes of this thread. My favorite the other day was, "Stars Fell on Alabama." But today it's, "Lullaby of the Leaves." Tomorrow, who knows.... ;-)

C'mon, Dave. Don't be such a stick in the mud. Very Happy We all understand about feelings. Pick a song just to be your favorite for now.
If I knew how, I'd do it. But I have no bleepin' clue. The question is not well-posed, to me.

I have worked with people who really do try to quantify the unquantifiable, and argue endlessly about "what's best", "what's worst", "what's this", and "what's that", as if it meant something. If they had flipped me a buck apiece for listening to each of these crazy arguments, I wouldn't need to work anymore.

OK - how about this. "Teenage Head" by the Flamin' Groovies. Is it or has it ever been my favorite song in any sense? Hell, I don't know. I like it. It's raw. It's rock and roll. It's a song. In a stream of consciousness, it came out like picking a card from an 8-deck chute. :)

Sorry, I just can't give you a serious answer. :alien:

I posed that question as simple as I knew how,MOST people have a favorite song,I was just curious what some of you would say,was meant to be just a little lighthearted thing, not a serious debate, just for each one to say what their favorite song was,I stated my all time favorite was STARDUST,allways thought it was such a beautiful tune,The ONLY Willie album I have ever bought was his stardust album, because of that song and the other great standards on it.If anyone does not have a favorite,so-what,no big deal.DYKBC.

No worries, Mr. Davidson. Mr. Mudgett is, in fact, one of my favorite posters. It was just my lighthearted attempt to get him in on the fun. Appearantly he knew that. I'm going to have to try to look up that song. It sounds like fun, too.

Yup I got it. Guess I need to diagram my jokes better.

There are a lot of really bad versions of Teenage Head out there. Here's a myspace page devoted to them with Teenage Head and several other original audio clips. Just scroll down.

I think the Flamin Groovies are arguably the most underrated rock and roll band ever. I might even say they're my "favorite underrated (and relatively unknown) rock and roll band". :)

If you only like country music, you probably won't like this stuff. It's pretty raw rock and roll, sorta like if the Stones never grew up.

Great stuff, Dave. I play in a couple of bands that could do Teenage Head justice.

I'm torn between choosing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and the 2nd Movement (Adagio) from the 'Concerto de Aranjuez' by Rodrigo for guitar and orchestra (as recorded by Narciso Yepes).

Another piece that lends itself to the steel.

I think Angel Romero's recording of the piece with Andre Previn and the London Philharmonic is the finest version I've ever heard. I also really like Mikes Davis' transcription for trumpet, and Jim Hall's jazz rendition.

I like that one too, but prefer Miles' version with Gil Evens, that I've been listening to since a kid.

Yes, it would lay out well on pedal steel, but I thought lately of others I'd like to hear you do:
Carmina Burana.

My other request would be 'Larry Bell Does Frank Zappa.'
But that's another topic....

But todays personal picks: Master of Time, by Yes, and Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings, depending on whether I'm uplifted or depressed.

Now, now, some of you guys are cheating and slipping in more than one! :P

I have many, many favorites. Completely impossible to single out just one. I agree with many of the foregoing.

Your right Brint,it's hard to pick JUST one, just like eating chips, hard to eat just one. That's why I asked for just one,to see if anyone could do it,without making a long list.it was just a FUN thing.DYKBC.
