ON THE BEACH AT WAIKIKI

Post by Rick Alexander »

My good buddy Jody Carver suggested I give this venerable ditty a whirl.

Gibson Console Grande T-8, 47 Fender Pro Amp.
E6 tuning - hi2lo G# E C# B G# E C# A
Maybe it should be called E6/AMaj7 tuning . .

The backup band consists of acoustic guitar, ukulele and bass.

Fun!

Nice, Rick. I've always liked that tune a lot. Plus, the tone of that Gibson thru that old Fender sounds really sweet. What guitar, bass and uke rigs are you using? I'm most particularly interested in the uke. Nice tone.

Mahalo!

It's "Honi kaua wikiwiki", roughly translated as "kiss me, quickly". Makes a lot more sense. :)

Thanks Brad -
Golly, and I thought I was singing about a quickie on the beach!
Well, one thing leads to another . .

Thanks Todd! Okay - the guitar is a Taylor 714CE, the bass is a 79 Fender P Bass into a Galleon Krueger Backline 115, and the ukulele is a 1950 Martin.

I like most of the up-beat Hawaiian songs Rick, and that's a good one __ great job too. Single string work on that Gibson fits well to that tune.

"Don't Sing Aloha When You Go" and "That's The Hawaiian In Me" are two of my favorites also.

Thanks Rick C!
Those are 2 good tunes you mentioned, I should give them a go.
I can always use more snappy tunes in my repertoire . .

Hey Bobbe - okay buddy, I'll just say "later dude"!

Keoki, it's still there.
Sometimes YouTube acts funny.
If you try again in a little while it'll probably come up.
OR - if you go to http://youtube.com/rickalexander47 you'll see the thumbnail link to this video.
Just click on it, hopefully that should work.

We need some hot chicks for our videos!

Thanks Will - come and visit sometime.

Thank you Andy, it's kinda like walking and chewing gum at the same time - only a bit more difficult.

Thanks Jeff!
We need to do another video before we go to St Louis . .

Keoki, have you been able to see the video yet?

Nice job Rick! 8)

Your E6 tuning is a C6 moved up 2 steps. I like it.

What string gauges are you using to get this tuning?

Mahalo Don!

Thanks Gerald - the gauges I use for E6 are:
[tab]
G# - .012
E - .015
C# - .018
B - .022
G# - .024
E - .030
C# - .036
A - .042
[/tab]

The gauges are very close to high C6 tuning, so a high C6 set will do the trick.
This tuning is the one Don Helms uses.
