Directions:
Coming in on Hwy 78 from Alabama, take the Fulton exit, then go right to the first red light. If coming West from Tupelo, take the Fulton exit, and go back over Hwy 78. Come to the first red light. There you'll turn left onto Access Rd. You will go approximately 1 mile and you will see a sign for Max Homes on the right, and you will see a large, brown building that says something about Waterway Distributing on it, with several truck trailers parked out back. This is the building the show will be in. Come around to the other side, which is the main entrance.

There are two motels in Fulton, a Day's Inn and The Sands, with Day's Inn being the newer and larger of the two.

I just spoke with Robby Turner by email again last night, and he says he's excited about the upcoming show, and is going to be there for the Friday night jam as well. So far, Robby Turner, Doug Jernigan and Mike Sweeney all are going to participate in Friday night's jam, so this is a chance for any and all of you folks who would like the opportunity to jam with three of the best steeler's in the business!

I've never had the opportunity to hear Billy Carr, but I am looking forward to it. I have heard many good comments on his playing though. I have heard all the other guys who are coming to play, and they are all top notch musicians!

We've had a couple of last minute cancellations from a couple of the local guys. Danny Lyles and Odell Burgess won't be playing on Saturday, but will be in attendance for the Friday night Jam, and be there for at least part of the day on Saturday.

I bet that old emmons of cookies will be singing that saturday. Well i have talked to doc and had to change the world war II songs into something i might no. Sounds like everybody's gettin' excited. We'll probably leave early Friday morning and drive to Tupelo and then over to the jam Friday night. Looking forward to seeing everybody and meeting some new pickers. This will be my first show using a GFI. My last two shows I used a Carter and a Magnum. In the near future, I'll be playing a Carter Starter and a 8-stringer tuned to E13th during shows. This is our first trip to the show in Fulton. 4 1/2 hours from Seminary. We'll be on the coast with Bill Stafford on June 7th also. Don't have a date set for our next MSP show. Looking at probably September or early October. See ya Friday night!

Forgot to mention this, I'll have info available on the MAGNUM guitars, as well as, CARTER STARTERS, in case anyone wants to see about ordering one. Also, I can accept orders for a new FESSENDEN at the show. Thanks.

Billy, I'm looking forward to hearing the GFI in person. I've never heard one in a live setting before. I've heard a few on youtube, and heard one on a local TV station near here once before, and it sounded great!

With all you guys playing these new guitars, I'll probably feel ancient playing the ol' "Bud"!

I might need to borrow one of those Tommy Young souped up hot-rod guitars to even up the odds a bit!!!

You will enjoy Billy and his GFI, you would enjoy Billy and his anything. He is one of the unheralded
great players of today. I get to go to his shop some time and just spend time and listen. A man with a heart to help young steelers any way he can. He can play anything and any tuning I think. We will be blessed to have him at the show. Used to play with Jim Parkers dad years ago, fantastic fiddle player and musician. Mississippi has a lot of great players and a lot of them will be there this weekend.

The Friday night portion of this years show was truly great! What a treat to hear Doug Jernigan and Mike Sweeney do set together. Wayne Bridge was absolutely smokin' that ol' Sho~Bud!

One of Texas' fine steel guitarists, and equally fine gentleman, Mr. Louie Hallford took a back seat to no one! He was playing a black Emmons, so you KNOW that he sounded good!

Odell Burgess was also in top form, and sounding mighty fine as always. It's always a pleasure to listen to him play steel, and he's also a top notch lead guitar player too.

You folks who have been bragging on Billy Carr were NOT exagerating! Billy is surely one of the finest pickers in the state! Absolutely loved the tone of his GFI too.

Oh yeah, I sat in too and played the ol' "Bud". Every good country show needs a comedienne, and my train wrecks were probably good for a few laughs at least!!!

Jay French took a little time off from his bass playing duties to sit in on my Sho~Bud. He was sounding good on it too. Must have been all those hot licks that I accidently left on it for him! haha

Saturday promises to be an even bigger and better day, so if you can make it here at all, do yourself a favor and come and hear these guys, and several more excellent steel guitarists, that will be playing.

Thanks to everyone who was at the Fulton show, Friday night and/or Saturday. One of the best steel shows I've seen. Pleasure getting to meet new folks, as well as, other pickers I hadn't met before. Anyone in this area in and around northeast MS. really needs to checkout one of these shows. Lem and all of the folks there did an outstanding job with the show and making us all feel at home. It takes a lot of work and expense to have a good show like this one. The list of players was great. I can't remember everybodys name, so I won't try to list them but I do remember the guitar brands that were represented. Emmons, Sho-Bud, Mullen, Show-Pro, Rains, GFI, Zumsteel, Sierra and MSA. (Hope I didn't miss anyone). Thanks again and hope to see everybody at the next one!

Mike S. it was our pleasure having you and Teresa come and be with us, and are looking forward to you coming back next time. Mike J. it was also our pleasure to have you and your mom with us too. What a great lady, and I hope she can come back with you next year as well.

I don't really know where to begin about the show, but guess I'll just pickup with Saturday's show since I already mentioned Friday.

I feel bad for anyone who likes good music, and didn't get to make it to this show. It is not stretching the truth one bit to say that some of the best music ever played was played at Fulton MS this weekend. I had several people telling me that they enjoyed what they heard on Friday and Saturday more than other music show they had ever been to their entire lives.

As anyone who has ever heard him can tell you, Mike Sweeney will amaze you with his tone and playing skills. Mike Jones had the audience in awe with his playing too. I had never really got to hear Mike J. or Mike S. featured as soloists before, but saw right off that both of them are world class pickers.

I finally got to hear a Show Pro steel in person, and it was played by my friend, the great Robby Turner...from here on out to also be known as "Wrong way Robby".

Anybody remember "Wrong Way Feldman" from the Gilligan's Island episode??? A little inside joke for those who attended the show.

Anyway, Robby showed exactly why he's played with so many major artists, both on the road and on their recordings. Steel guitar playing that was so good that there really aren't words to describe it.

Doug Jernigan...what can anyone say that hasn't already been said thousands of time. I guess the standing ovation that Doug received at the close of his set says it all. I will also add that Doug's closing song of "Orange Blossom Special" was so good and so FAST that it would have had most fiddle player's running for cover!!!

Mississippi, Alabama and Texas were well represented by an array of talented steel guitarists who played the show as well. I got a feeling that you are going to see these guys being featured at more and more shows. Billy Carr, Tommy Oliver, Smith Benjamin, Danny Lyles, Jim Parker, Bobby Ray, Eddie Bollinger, and Louie Hallford all played incredible. If there's a show with any of the guys playing on it, please do yourself a favor and go hear them!!! It was an honor for me to get to play a set on the same show as these fellows! It was also quite a bit intimidating too!!!

Tommy Young was also on hand with some of the guitars with the Max-Tone mods. There were some really pleasantly surprised looks from the folks when they sat down to try one out. I also heard many compliments on their sound too.

I'd also like to thank several others who had a big hand in making it all happen: Jackie Johnson, Christy Steele, Anita Davis, Sonny Boone, Jay French, Larry Young, Luke Johnson, Phil Ferguson and his sister Carol, Johnny Wigginton, Ben Brown, Robby Turner, Wendell Gurley, Doc Rickles, Mike Matthews, Bobby Ray, Country Jack Harper, Odell Burgess, and the two gentlemen who's names I can't recall (the keyboardist who played for Robby, and the gentleman who played lead guitar), for providing vocals and some of the best backup musicians that anyone, anywhere, could ask for! There were so many involved, that if I accidently skipped a name, please forgive me, and know that all who helped were greatly appreciated.

Also, I would really like to extend my thanks and appreciation to everyone who attended this weekend. Without you folks in the audience, there wouldn't be any steel shows, and I thank you all for coming out.

The third annual show is already in the works, and I've already spoken with many of the above players about returning and will also hopefully be able to add some more to the list as well.

Thanks again to EVERYONE involved for another great show!!!
