I love mine, plays great with TT's on both necks, stays in tune, I use Jagwires and never had a string to break. Just changed strings last nite couse they had been on so long I felt guilty. With Sits I had to change strings every 3 weeks or the 3rd string would break durring a gig, break without fail.
I am in the process of trying to trade my Professional for a Carter.
In the short time I've been playing I've had the opportunity to own and play several different brands of steels, and Carter is right at the top of my list. I bought a Carter new, sold it a few months back, now I've got another on order.
And I got a chance a few weeks ago to hear and play a Carter Starter for the first time, a longtime steeler friend got one in trade and he immediately brought it over to test drive. We were both surprised and impressed with the sound of it. You may have already ordered one before they increased their prices, but I would suggest to go for the pro model. Great guitars.
Great Guitars and Great People!
I have SD 10 that is light, easy to play, and with Lawrence XR-16 the Emmons push-pull sound. Went in to have the knee levels changed. Bud stopped what he was doing and changed them for me right then. Now that's service!
Now if I can just stop my cat from sitting on it when I'm not playing it.
Chris I like the color of yours. The blue is darker the flash made it look lighter, the color is much prettier than the picture, if you like the picture you will love the origanal.
I like wood guitars betterlike the williams.
It might be me but when i look at the undercarriage it looks a little fragile to me . The rods look a little small ! I think they sound good but i do have some issues . As i said it might be just me ! We do have our opinions i suppose ! I hope noone gets offended at my reply . G.P.
I took delivery of my second new Carter last July, an SD-10 5 X 5. It had the new style pedal rack. It is a marked improvement. John Fabian told me that my guitar was the first one to get the new rack.
Both Carters are great! The loafer sounds a little different but it also has a different pickup. I went from a George L's to a Lawrence. The two are close in tone though, very uniform guitars.
You must have really long arms and legs to reach past your Fender and be able to play your Carter.
Love that Williams.
Gary. No offense taken. The Carter is solid as a rock. I don't think the smaller rods make any difference. But as you say, it's all about opinions.
Carter D10 8p/7k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup, Regal RD40 Dobro (D tuning), Recording King Professional Dobro (G tuning), NV400, NV112, Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open G slide and regular G tuning guitar) .
I've only had my D-10 Carter a few days. This guitar is really nice playing and sounding. Sustains for days and is unbelievably lightweight... yet sturdy. It has the George L's SS pickups and the machined aluminum necks.
I'm sure any of the new guitars are good but I'd consider this guitar to be rated very high in the "best buy" category. Excellent value for the bucks....
Plus it's black so it naturally sounds better than any other color...(just joking on the color statement guys... but my other guitar is a Black Emmons push/pull so I had to throw that in)
I have owned two Carter steel guitars. The first one I think was 1994 and the other 2000.They are great guitars. No problems whatsoever with either one...You will not find anyone any nicer than John Fabian and Bud Carter. For the money it is the best you can get.Thomas Malugin Columbia,Tn
Absolutely, Gary. I sure wouldn't mind owning the guitars you have.

It's not my first professionnal PSG and I'm not disappointed with my '07 D-10 Carter with BL LXR Pickups.
Stay in Tune with very little drop cabinet, full sustains, easy to play, lightweight and very important to me a Canadian authorised dealer within 400 miles from home.
Al Brisco gives outstanding service and I think Carter will exist for several years to come.

I have had my new Carter D-10now for a couple of weeks. The wood is quite similar to Ernest's Williams with Natural Maple Lacquer with Quilted Sausage Maple front apron. Looks great, plays great and I love it.(although I knew I would as I kept my S-10 Carter) I would also like to say about the same thing Louis has stated in dealing with Al Brisco and the Carter people. All were and are great!
Larry, are my eyes playing tricks on me or are there 2 strings coming off the top string on your e9th neck on your last pic?I did a double take and see 11,it isnt even on the roller.

I see what you mean but it is the metal strip at the top of the front apron
I have a 1996 D10 (Black of course) that I bought new. I took it in for a 100,000 mile check up and it took about 40 minutes from the time I walked through the front door and time I walked out. Bud said "There you go......should be good for another 100,000 miles". I like the sound and that is who I have to please. If I were to buy a new one, I am afraid I would have to try it for some time before I let this one go.....then dont know if I could. Take in mind that I am just a week-end hacker but this guitar has had a lot of use.
