May I add, Bill, "When in Rome ...." Also you might want to use a spellcheck, (egaggeration?)and learn how to use adjectives more appropriately, (unethical outbursts?)

Joe..

With all due respect this has nothing to do with Bills character or how smart he is. The process was arrived at by Bills own writings. The responses of the forum members have only been to have him stop trying to impress us with his obscuration regarding syntax. In other words "Get to the point"
Once again... ask a question without subterfuge and then you will get serious comments without the added remarks.

Barry,

Typos are common at 6:00 A.M.; I swear I had checked "exaggeration" before writing. One of the bad habits to get into, is not keeping with plurality. I thank you for pointing out what I suspect was an instance of inadvertent misspelling, and for other grammatical errors.

Bill, are you seriously expecting to be taken seriously when you reply like this.
Regardless of the timbre of unethical outbursts, I patiently await the return of normal responses to my bid to correspond. Whomever would engage in searches for subjects to absorb their rancorous posturings, which amount to repudiating the smallest details of any subject matter, is a discredit to the typically sincere steel guitarist. The approaches to a better view of this global trait, that points to an annoyance of improvement through education and new ideas, is puzzling.
Who says the outbursts are "Unethical" ? if indeed they ARE 'outbursts', and by the way, it's whomsoever.

You say your "bid to correspond": I was labouring under the obvious misconception that correspond per se was a two-way process.
Most of your posts don't ask opinions of a particular subject but are a series of related facts and statements as though you were some kind of "Oracle"

Phrases like, "what do YOU think of" or "What if" or "is it" etc are noticeable by their absence from most of your attempts to impress the rest of us with your use of "English" which, by the way, is far removed from either the conversational form or NORMAL correspondence usage..

As far as having to be an accomplished player to qualify to comment on YOUR threads, I think that on an "Open" forum the thread's ownership passes from the original poster to the vox populi once posted..

I'm sure there are many on this forum who, if they wished, could formulate the kind of theories that you grind out ad nauseum, they don't do so, ever wondered why ?

No one is deliberately trying to insult you or make little of your posts, but communicating is what you said, and communicating is obviously what you are NOT doing, at least on a level understood by most.

.... and Bill, this is NOT meant to be anything other than helpful, If we can get you to "Communicate" instead of "Postulating" self evident assumptions, it will be a good day for us all..

Jack,

What if I said that climbing into a cockpit is not for everyone? Would you be affected in some way by such a comment?

Bill Hankey...
"Gringo The Lilacs"
This was an original song co-written and performed by the Hose Brothers. HoseA and HoseB. The first verse of the song starts out..the phone rang “greeeen greeeen” I picked it up and said “Yellow”. Bill I can't tell if you're using flowery language or sniffing the lilac air freshener.

Bill..

I would agree with you one hundred percent. As a retired airline pilot, flying from the cockpit perspective is surely not for all. See... ask the question.... get the answer :D

PS: Please view any comments I have made as matter of fact and in no way intended to impugn your integrity or intent. As we have never met, I can only assume your choice of words is meant to tantalize our cortex and respond with great aplomb.

I'll refrain from pointing out that "whomever" is an object, whereas "whoever" is a subject, and assume it's a typographical error. :whoa: :D

Whoever vs. Whomever, as relates to the steel guitar.

Rule 1. To determine whether to use whoever or whomever, here is the rule:
him + he = whoever
him + him = whomever

Examples: Give it to whoever/whomever asks for it first.

Give it to him. He asks for it first.

Therefore, Give it to whoever asks for it first.

We will hire whoever/whomever you recommend.
We will hire him. You recommend him.
him + him = whomever
We will hire whoever/whomever is most qualified.
We will hire him. He is most qualified.
him + he = whoever

Rule 2. When the entire whoever/whomever clause is the subject of the verb that follows the clause, look inside the clause to determine whether to use whoever or whomever.
Examples: Whoever is elected will serve a four-year term.

Whoever is elected is the subject of will serve.

Whoever is the subject of is.

Whomever you elect will serve a four-year term.

Whomever you elect is the subject of will serve.

Whomever is the object of you elect.

I hope this clarifies things, as relates to the steel guitar.

Richard, Methinks you're confufled about the two Bills..
It's Bill Hatcher who plays the Donna Lee bit..
and just in case the "Original" Bill is still having problems with his "Web TV" I've included a link that should work on almost anything..

Lap Steel eh ! some form of Diatonic tuning Bill ?

Bill Hatcher,

I was able to hear "Donna Lee" after Basilh changed the link. It's excellent, and a treat to hear your pick attack. It would be interesting to try to dope out those major sevens, ninths, and seven flat five chords. I wish that I could hear an hour of your repertoire. The "Donna Lee" rendition sums up your ability to tackle classical or jazz genres with ease. Thanks to you and Basilh for presenting the link.

Doug B.,

Thanks for stressing how awkward who and whom can be to a person such as me. Now I realize the need to pay close attention to English teachers in classrooms.
