Fast or slow, loud or soft, country or rock; all of the variables in preferences, help to establish if others share similar interests. Outspokenness, is the best guide to sorting out those who may have chosen dissimilar choices of music appreciation. The steel guitar is a fine example of preferred selectivity.

Bill,I`m sure you`re a nice guy,but when you post,you sound like someone who`s desperately trying to sound impressive.However,your syntax is always hopelessly jumbled,your sentences almost never parse,and I never know WHAT THE F!!! you`re talking about.I`m sure you don`t talk like you write.just relax and say what you have to say,you`ll sound much more intelligent,trust me.All IMO,of course.

well, I dont know any of ya..........but, I did spend a couple of wonderful...snowy and cold nites in Pittsfield MA a few years back....had a wonderful meal at "Dakotas"...I believe and met some great people......hope to return someday....but,not in the winter.....too cold for this old texas cowboy...I do enjoy most all of the posts on sgf..and there are some friendly and helpful players on here........to help this newbie out...

I'll answer your question best I can, Bill.

I enjoy all kinds of music as long as it is in fact music. To me music has rules, some of which are bendable and even breakable at times. But at no time does a jackhammer resemble music. That is simply noise. Do some folks enjoy that sound? Maybe they do, but is not music and it never will be. This is where I classify Rap and other genres of music including some of today's country; just noise.

Personal taste does not enter into it. If people like noise then so be it, but don't insult the intelligence of those of us who know better by calling it "Music." Music is a life-long investment, and takes years of practice to master. Its not something you can do by banging on some garbage can lids and screaming like a banshee.

For me, as long as there is a musical structure, and some reasonably decent players backing some fine singers or other soloists (singers are optional) then you have music.

When you encounter someone who says they don't like old whiney country, their probably noise lovers. So be it, to each his own. But know in your own heart that they are musically illiterate and can't tell music from noise.

At least thats how I see it.

Bill in your effort to become a purposeful distraction from a systemic social ill, you parade large words and jargon in a manner best described as cut and paste, in a deliberate attempt to show off your knowledge or to 'close someone out' of the conversation and you should not be surprised when it is treated with the utmost skepticism.
