Pete,
Tell us who he is.

Allison's a good singer, she reminds me of Anita Anderson.

there's a difference between god-given looks you can't do anything about and making yourself look like a creep by not taking care of yourself, tattooing yourself, abusing food, abusing drugs and alcohol, etc.

judging a person on the former can generally shows at least a lack of character on the part of the one doing the judging. Judging a person on the latter is usually -- but not always -- a pretty accurate assesment of whomever is being judged.

Pete,
I agree these treads of putting down others for looks, taste in music, new, old, whatever, is negative and discouraging to everyone.
I'm sorry for doing the samething in this thread.

I agree Anita is great! :)

Tom - Right..."but not always." That's the truth. By all accounts, Steve has paid his dues and cleaned up along the way. Awesome that he married a babe who loves him and supports him. I took aversion to the words "ugliest, drug infested creeps." It spues self-righteousness. I'm a man, and I've been around the block a few times, like most guys. I know that "sins/failures" are both overt and covert, and it's very easy to only see the overt, i.e., most visible "sins." It has been my experience that those who pass judgment in that way need to look in the mirror...as they are usually riddled with "secret sins." Have a nice day. (This'll probably get closed, but oh well.)

Regardless of the start of this thread,
it quickly went pretty positive.
I think they have been well defended,
though they should not have needed to be.

I bet the percentage of people in this forum,
who have abused their bodies over the years
is pretty darned high..
be it rot gut, things to keep ya awake driving at 4 am
cigarettes, road food, home cooking in huge portions,
bad 'hookups. I could go on, bet you can too.

Steve never struck me as much different than MANY pickers,
he just got unlucky one day and did time for something.

Doesn't take away from his accomplishments as a writer.

Apparently his patina of road-weary intelegence
has an attraction to a woman who has seen
much of the road herself. And the cross section
of critters littering the sides too.

Been there, done that,
and back to tell about it; I don't recommend it.

Seems his character on the tube is pretty positive a role.
Like he is trying to give back to the community,
but stopping others going down a bad path,
by citing his own self as the example.

And people tend to listen to the warnings of
those who have fallen,
over those who just SAY;
'Don't do this, I never did.'
DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Real happiness has no strings attached.
But pedal steels have many!

Hey Brother Jerry,a young mind in an old body makes you say crazy things about how you really feel.I understand what you are saying because most Musicians are looked at as what you said about Steve Earl. But,real brothers & sisters try to help them out.I try to help my good friend Doug Supernaw and my late good friend Keith Whitley. But,sometimes others around them won't let you get near them.Thank God Steve's got some one who's with him and if not, that's between them. It's time to get all that Negative out of things so we all can be positive in being happy about what we all do in Music or just in support of the FORUM or others. Here's one for Jerry H.'s broken heart with Pete Finney playing some beautiful steel. The first part of this video is kinda creepy with the Graham Parsons lookalike.

I wish I could take credit for the great steel on this; I think this track has Russ Pahl on steel. We played this tune on the live CD/DVD she did, but not on the album track they used for this video.

But it's great to hear again, it's been awhile...

Pete-
you know whereof you speak and have history with the folks under discussion; I just met 'em the once, and it was a profound experience. I might've been out of line...

No worries, Dave... And I would never "bust" you on anything without a smiley face!

If I remember correctly the ales were flowing freely all around at the old pub on the night in question as well. That place is closed now, and there's usually not much interesting at the Exit Inn these days either.

I'll just listen to both of them, love what they do and think about how lovely it is that two people who can express themselves so well in a song can do it so much more effectively together...

By the way Tom, tattooing and living a lifestyle you choose is a fine way to go for some of us. If you don't like it, don't do it- but if you want to make those kind of statements you might want to wear a football helmet when you're around us. Our lovely wives might put a dent in your head.

Seriously.

Allison's got a video called "Send Down An Angel" and there's a Zumsteel in it. I think Mike Daily's in the video.

Is that the same Mike Daily who sit's in with George Strait's Band?
Two different guys:

Mike DALY, who used to play with Allison, now plays with Hank Jr., does a lot of sessions and lives in Nashville.

Mike DAILY does more than just "sit in" with George Strait, he has been the steel player for George's entire career. He was actually in the "Ace in the Hole Band" when they first hired George to be their lead singer! He lives in Central Texas.

There's a third Mike Daly from North Carolina who's also a fine steel player; he was in the band "Whiskeytown" with Ryan Adams, I'm not sure what he's doing these days...

The steel player in the video looked like Mike Daily, who plays steel for George.

You may be right, Brett... To me it's hard to really see who it is in that video, they don't show him very close but I suppose it could be Mike Daily from George's band. I do know it's NOT the Mike Daly that was actually touring with her around then (no one else in the video looks familiar from her band either) and I know that it's Russ Pahl that we're hearing, I love his steel parts on that...
