What's on your CD player RIGHT NOW

Post by Mike Perlowin RIP »

We all have collections of CDs. Which steel guitar CD is sitting in your player right now.

I've got Jim Cohen's "Home James" in mine. Maybe it's because I grew up listening to so many of the songs he recorded, but I simply love that CD.

THE TANZANIA SOUND- VARIOUS ARTISTS
A collection of mostly 1960s guitar-driven songs, released on the wonderful-- and alas, defunct--Original Music label.

Oops...didn't read carefully the first time. Steel guitar CD ws the request. Well, just this morning it was the George Jones LIVE AT DANCE TOWN USA, with Buddy Emmons--from 1965 or so.

It was, but that's OK. As unbelievable as it may sound, there actually is music that doesn't have steel.

Jim Cohen's CD is in my CD player at him, but there is a CD called "The Moonstone" by a singer named Tommy Flanders in my car. (The Flanders CD is a reissue of a wonderful LP from 1969.)

The Essential Marty Robbins. It's from Sony & it's a 2 disc set. Each c.d. has about 20 songs on it. If you like Marty, it's a pretty nice album!!!

Drive-by Truckers "Brighter than Creation's Dark."

Not a "steel album," per se, but steeler John Neff is now a full-time member of the band and he plays on most tunes.

The album isn't released yet, but I'm streaming the whole thing on CMT.COM (of all places).

A "Session With Chet" With Bud Issacs on steel and the great Dale Potter on fiddle. I also have Mike Sweeny's last CD, which is wonderful. Of course some "Pappa John is a must along with some "Big E" and Jimmy Day. That will change from day to day but that was a good day for me. My best, Bobby
