Tanya Tucker

Post by ray qualls »

Does anyone know if Tanya Tucker carries a steel player in her band? They're playing the 14th at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray

Ray, I have been playing the occasional gig lately with Jake Clayton and he tells me he has been handling the steel and fiddle chairs for Tanya. I will be doing a X-mas show with him tomorrow night at the Kinder Lighthouse Theater in Columbia, MO so I will ask him if he is doing the gig you referred to.
Merry Christmas,

Thanks Dan, I appreciate it. I think I'll "put on my walking shoes" and go see her. I hope Jake is playing with her. Should be a good show. Ray

Tanya is going to be in Vinton, La the very next night (15th) and I'll be there watching as well! I'm hoping she's "got steel" too!

Ray and Sidney; our show was cancelled tonight due to weather, but I am reasonably sure that Jake is doing all of Tanya's dates for the month of December. Jake is a 21 year old "prodigy" who plays every instrument known to man. I haven't heard him play steel yet, but if he plays steel half as good as he plays fiddle, you won't be disappointed. Be sure and meet him after the show if you can; he is one of the nicest down-to-earth guys in the music business.

Ray and Sidney; I don't know if you attended the shows or not, but I just did a gig last night with Jake and he just came back home yesterday after being out with Tanya. He said he is no longer doing the steel duties; he is mainly fiddle and banjo. She has hired Dean Holman (hope I spelled that right) for the steel (fabulous player, by the way)
Happy holidays! Dan

Dan, I didn't get to go to the concert as we had an ice storm here and I was without electricity for 8 days. I know Dean as I've seen him many times in Branson. He is a great player! Maybe next time. Thanks! Ray

Thanks for the info!! I did get to see Tanya and the show was great! There wasn't really much steel but what little there was sounded great. Tanya had a good size band along with The Imperials and overall it was a great show.

She did several Christmas songs which probably took the place of some of her older hits. Tanya's voice was strong & the band was great. More of her older songs & more steel would have made it perfect.....but it was still good!!
