Fools Gold was singer/songwriters Tom Kelly and Denny Henson. They hired drummer Ron Grinel and me to record an album with them in 1975. Also we did some time on the road. I think they did a 2nd album a couple of years later.
After abduction by space aliens, I returned as Earnest Bovine and moved on to great acclaim with Severed Head In A Bag, and later the Jon Wayne Band. Tom and Denny concentrated on songwriting, Tom in Los Angeles and Denny in Nashville.

A far as I know, Fools Gold was the backing band for Dan Fogelberg.
I know of at least two albums they made, one album carrying I will run, but also a great song called Rain, oh rain.
Really great (high) vocals and harmonies and great steelwork too.
On the other album I recall a song about a Captain, this song too was very much worth listening to.
I also would like to know what happened to these guys.

Peer, I can provide a little more information but nothing recent.
We (Tom, Denny, Ron & me) backed up Dan F on a lot of concerts from late 1974 to early 1976. By 1976 the Fools Gold album was done and FG would do a set before Dan's show. Balloon Dick was playing and singing with the group by that time.
I've seen Tom & Denny only once in the last 30 years and I don't know what they are up to besides that they have been writing songs, and Tom has been successful with songs such as Like A Virgin and True Colors.
We all met at a place called Blytham in Champaign IL. Maybe I should post some pictures from those days.

Ok, I'm not ashamed to admit I've got NO idea who "Balloon Dick" is.
I tried to look it up online, but for some reason or other, I'm getting a lot of answers to questions I'm not looking to have answered, if you know what I mean.
Oh, and to keep up with the Jon Wayne quotes, here's the pitch:
Mr. Engineer....

If anyone is interested, Amazon has Fool's Gold's original first album (albeit in a newer/different package and reportedly better audio quality than the Japanese-issued CD) at a rather reasonable cost.

Faders Up!
Im still looking for a legitmate copy of Two Graduated Jiggers. I know there is website but was told it is not legit and is basically ripping off the band so i havent(and wont ) buy it there. I see some used on amazon...maybe it wouldnt hurt to buy there...as the band would see no money from that anyway? Hell, maybe I'll buy it there AND mail Earnest a ten spot...haha...that way everyone wins and Earnest can enjoy a couple enchiladas on me.

Richard Bowden is a dear friend of mine and I produced his lastest CD, "Big Bad Johnson" , for "The Bob & Tom Show". His website is : www.richardbowden.com He runs a theatre at Linden Texas now : www.musiccitytexas.org and still plays shows and is funnier than ever. He has more funny stories than you can imagine !!! He has his own string bender guitar that he designed and it`s really works well.
