Congratulations
Just have to take a moment and thank Marcia Rodriques for the tremendous work she has done in putting this show together. Though she did have a show committee she is the person that did most of the leg work dealing with inviting the guests artists, arranging the hotel rooms and the hall for the show, the food, transportation and many other things we wouldn't even think of. This looks to be one of the best line up of performers we've ever had and should be a great show. For all you've done for our orginization you have my sincere admiration. Good Luck and Best Wishes for a successful show. God Bless Roger A. Trahan

risga stell show
Harry the Steel Show was the exact same Steel players as the Last Steel Show Tony Palmer ran in North Providence if you were there two years ago with the exception of Chuck Lettes. It was a nice Show but still there were players that played 40 Min. and 30 min. and some only got to play 2 songs.Had run out of time for the RISGA Jam at the end.I did not play so I should not have any complaint.

Hi Harry,
Sorry you couldn't make it, we all missed you. To set the record straight, the show was great!
The day started with a 3-hour seminar in the morning by Chuck Lettes. This is the first time RISGA has offered a seminar.
Kerry Anderson, Elaine Ellis and J.D. Foster did a fantastic job playing all day backing up the steel players. Jim Sprague stepped in to back up Kerry while he played a great set on steel, as usual.
Jim Cohen did a great Jazz set, Chuck Lettes played his Fry Pan superbly, John and Darlene De Maille wowed us and Doug Beaumier was great. Jim, Chuck, John and Doug did a great jam and put on quite a show. They performed the "Beer Bottle Jam Song", Tony Palmer has a video.
Mike Ihde and Sandy Martin came down to back up Jim Cohen.
All of the member players did a great job and played as much music as they had prepared for the show. Ben Carnevale, Jim Rice and Peter Hart did a great job for their first show. Steve Todd and Doug Beaumier did a twin steel performance. Eddie Cunningham played Hawawiian music on a non-pedal double neck. Tony Palmer played an outstanding set and Roger Trahan treated us with singing a few songs and his all famous Gardenia Waltz.
The Member Jam at the end of the show was optional to the players from the start and they chose not to play it. Everybody was tired as most of the guys did the seminar.
So Harry, as you can see, the players have changed as did the show. We had a great time, hope you can make it next year. See you at the next meeting.
I will be posting pictures on the website very soon.

Thank You's
I would like to take this time to publicly thank some people for their help in putting this show together. I did not do this alone.
All the steel players made this happen, what a performance they put on. The band, playing all day with steel players they have never performed with and making them sound great. The "guests", all of you, thank you.
My Show Committee: Elaine Ellis, Manny Escobar and Roger Trahan, with this being my first show, I could not have done this without you guys. THANK YOU !!
Tony Palmer, all of your advice, from past experiences, thank you.
Steve Todd, for keeping the players moving throughout the show and watching the time, setting everyone up, thank you.
Peter Hart who never forgets his camera for any event, but most important captured this one, thank you.
Let's not forget the sound, Lenny Amaral does this year after year and what a great job he does, thanks Lenny.
Last, but certainly not least and most important, my husband, Chuck Rodrigues. He has been by my side every step of the way and has been my sounding board for the last 8 months. He stepped down from playing this year as to give others a chance to play and be ready to assist anyone who needed help throughout the day.
Thanks to all of you for helping me make this a great show. I appreciate each and every one of you more than you know.

Thanks to all, who, helped put on the "RISGA Show".
Darlene and I had a wonderful time, with wonderful people, who, are dedicated steel players and steel lovers. We know how hard it is to make a good show come to fruition and the RISGA is at the top of the list. Keep up the good work and save that "beer bottle" for next time.
Sincerely,
John & Darlene

What a great time that was! My thanks to all the great folks at RISGA who worked to pull off this excellent steel show yesterday, and for inviting me to participate. The backup band did a great job, the area is clearly full of excellent steelers who made for a very fun day. I must add special thanks to Mike Ihde and Sandy Martin for sitting in on my set; Mike even brought along his guitar-synth so he could play some of those great guitar and sitar patches that he used on 'Bus Stop' from the 'Home, James' CD. Cracked me up onstage, as I didn't realize he was going to do that! Thanks Mike! And Sandy gave up free tickets to the Patriots game to play this show with me; is that loyalty or what? Thanks so much Sandy!
Rhode Island hospitality was terrific too; we had a great meal by the waterside after the show, where Tony Palmer taught me to eat (and spell) Quahog! (I know, I know: chew 3 times, then swallow; wash down with copious amount of adult beverage. Did I get that right Tony?) Thanks Marcia, Chuck, and all the rest of the gang at RISGA. I hope to return sometime in the future.
Best,
Jimbeaux

I have to chime in here and say how much fun the show was. This was my first time playing out on steel and I had a great time, after I stopped shaking. Kerry, Elaine and JD laid down a solid backing and helped me through, they are more than a great backup band, they are great people (and all members of the RISGA). Thanks!
The players provided a wide range of styles and sounds, from Peter Hart's big band and Alan Jackson songs, to Roger's traditional Ray Price and Tom Brumley selections and Jim Cohen's 60's tunes (I never would have guessed "Bus Stop" could be a great steel song!) Lots of good jazz and blues tunes too. Way too much good stuff to mention everything.
One of the best things about the show was that it was a very relaxed setting - like we were all among friends. All the players were very supportive and chatted with everyone.
Chuck Lettes seminar was really great I can't wait to try some of the things I learned. If you haven't taken one of Chuck's seminars you are really missing something. He has a great way of presenting material that makes sense and is practical.
Marcia thanks for all the work you did on the show and for keeping the club moving ahead. This is a great reminder of why I drive almost 2 hours to go to the meetings. We are so lucky to have such a great club.
OK now I have to get started on next year's selections!

Maybe next year, we can book the club for two days, have Chuck's seminar day one, along with a mini steel show where everyone regardless of experience can comfortably perform, then day two, the full, normal show goes on, with both days starting at regular hours for these types of venues.
By the way, Sam, the show I ran two years ago had eight different steel players compared to this year's show..this show was not exactly like my show, it was quite different and well rounded. Good job, Marcia!

Beer Bottle Jam
Doug Beaumier thought he would start a new teaching trend.

That's not a 'teaching trend', Marcia. Don't sugar-coat it. That was Doug staggering over from the bar when his name was called to play, trying to wedge himself behind his steel to begin his set, and trying to figure out what to do with his unfinished beer which he refused to let go of, even though we promised him it would still be there after he was done playing, but he wasn't taking any chances...Doug Beaumier thought he would start a new teaching trend.

p.s. Back atcha, Doug.

Would you gentlemen be willing to dual at our next steel show using a Quahog?
Jim, you should be very familiar with the inards of this type of bar seeing as Tony Palmer has already introduced you to this Rhode Island device. So maybe you could start the lesson next time. We could ship you some in advance to practice.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, The title of that book would be "FUN"...Dougie when I see you play that horn behind your back with a Gallon bottle now that would amaze me..Everything else is 'Holy S**T did he just do that? That was a great cast of players...Sammy if someone wants to support something he enjoys, when does Price become a factor?

Well, I can finally say now, that, Doug and Chuck are real "standup guys". All kidding aside, that was truly a great time and a surprise for me. The only problem I had was, that, by the time I got the bottle- it was empty!!! Again, a Great Show with Great People and a Lot of Fun. Thanks for asking Darlene and me to contribute.
