Session 500

Post by Keith Cordell »

I recently got a Session 500 and would like some advice on setting it up for gigs. My settings would seem to be a bit treble heavy, but I can only hear midrange when I am playing with other players. The rest of the band agreed that there was little low end and the treble tended to fade out. Any ideas?

I used a Session 500 for 15 years. However, I set the EQ exactly the same as a Nashville 400 and even a Nashville 112.

Low +9
Mid -2
Shift 800 Hz
High and Pre about +1

I used these settings with a 71 PP Emmons D-10 and later with my D-10 Franklin.

My settings are similar to Jack's, although I use a bit more high and a bit less presence and I ran the shift a hair north of 800.
If you have about 15 minutes, and don't mind noodling at stage volume, may I suggest taking the procedure from the second most in this thread:

It will help you find the settings that will give you the sound you prefer.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

The EQ varies depending on the guitar and pickup, and I used to vary the High and Presence depending on how new the strings were.

But, what is posted is what I generally used the most.

Played all over the KC area with those settings. In the mid 90's with "The Gifford Bros Band". The band leader "Windy" Gifford(from Bucyrus KS) bought the Session 500 to use with his Gibson 345 for lead guitar.
