Al Perkins Fender 1000 copedent/tuning

Post by Jim Sliff »

Does anybody have the copedent Al was using back in the Burrito Days on his 1000? I remember seeing it somewhere, but it's not in anything I have. I wanted to mess around with it on the 1000.

If all else fails, try e-mailing Al through his website at alperkinsmusic.com. Al is one of the worlds nicest guys and I'll bet he'd send it to you.

Yes! Email Al. If he's around he'll get it to you. I think the back neck is open A.

I believe that his tuning (the 70's version) is in the back of Winnie Winston's book, along with many others.

I may have seen it in the Winston book, then. Don't have a copy though - I thought someone might have the tuning handy and post it.

Many thanks to Winnie Winston's book for this information.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Tucker Jackson on 15 December 2005 at 12:46 PM.]</p></FONT>

Interestingly, I just got an email from Al - that copedent is wrong. I still can't get a copedent formatted right, but here are the correct changes:

The pedals should be a standard Day configuration (I'm not exactly sure what that should be - still too new at this).

The left knee lever is LKL, not LKR, and lowered the top E to Eb.

RKR he varied between lowering the B to Bb or raising the 5th string E to F#.

Does this look better?

G# A
E Eb F#
B C#

E F#
D

</font>

Hmmm, this is almost a negative-image of the one listed in Winston's book. That's odd.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Tucker Jackson on 15 December 2005 at 05:54 PM.]</p></FONT>

For some reason I was thinking the C# raise would be on both pedals 1 and 3. Not sure why. The rest looks right, with one of the two possible choices for the RKL.

"For some reason I was thinking the C# raise would be on both pedals 1 and 3"

Yeah, that would definitely be the case on a 10-string guitar.

But I'm not sure about how Al had his 8-stringer setup. Since the Winston book listing of his copendent was roughly correct, except for having everything reversed (things on right were listed as being on the left, etc), I'm thinking maybe he didn't have that C# raise on Pedal 1.

Maybe another e-mail to Al is in order? Image

I'll ask him - but the reversal makes sense if he was using a Day setup, right?

Yep.

The pedal order between the two typical setups just reverses the A and C pedals:

Emmons setup: ABC
Day setup: CBA
