I have an .mp3 of THE LORDS PRAYER on steel but??

Post by David Hartley »

I have a track played beautifully by someone but I dont know who it is? It really is a fantastic bit of E9th playing too!

I want to post a link here so you can all hear it and perhaps identify who it is. I dont know how to do this? Is there anyone I can email the file to so that they can post this for me with a clickable link?

David, this is a guess since you haven't posted the file, but Ron Elliott is the only player I have ever heard do that song. And if it's "bring a tear to your eye" good, that would certainly qualify Ron's arrangement and playing. I'm a huge Ron Elliott fan, and that song is one of the major reasons why.

Post by Bill Stroud »

David I'm sure I have Ron's Cd of that song on there, if you could email me the clip, I'll see if it's a match. But I would think that is Ron playing the song. It is played very well by Ron.

Hi David,
This ain't the one but it's worth a listen since we're on the topic of sacred songs.

Hi

Post by David Hartley »

John (Jack) Russell..... Fred Justice only had to hear the first 3 seconds to know who it was..

Mike McGee.. I would like to know if he has any material for sale too?

Next, I would like to know his copedant as it took me ages and ages to worrk out just the first 10 seconds of the instrumental.. I would imagine he has a few 'odd' changes on his e9th (or is it a 12 string guitar?

thanks Fred,

David, Mike plays a D-10 and has 10 pedals and 11 knee levers, I think that's correct. He also plays the Day set up. Wonderful player. :D

I have no doubt that either rendition - by Ron or Mike - would be first rate. How can we all enjoy that which they offer? Could someone post links to both of them?

Sure would 'preciate it.

Ron did his version on a cassette called 'Pure American Steel'. It you're interested, he also has a rhythm track for that cassette including 'The Lord's Prayer' but I don' know if he has converted it to a CD.

The Lord's Prayer

Post by Leslie Elliott »

Hey folks,
Ron was playing this back stage at the Opry in the late 70's and early 80's. Many of the artists and musicians would come in the dressing room and get him to play it for them. He also played it at the steel convention in St. Louis in the early 80's and everyone was saying that they had never heard it played on the steel before this. Then, in the early 80's when he recorded his first album "Pure American Steel", he included it to answer so many requests that he had gotten. He now has it on cd, also the rhythm track on cd and still has the tab available, which Buddy Emmons tabbed for him. Anyone wanting his products can order from us in Madison TN and his website is: http://freewebs.com/ronelliottmusic
Thanks to all of you that have been very kind with your comments about Ron's version. For those of you that have not seen or heard him play it in person, I hope you get to some time - you will be musically rewarded.
Musically yours,
Leslie Elliott

Hi

Post by David Hartley »

Wow, :whoa: No wonder I am having trouble working out your fantastic version of the Lords Prayer Mike. What a copedant you have there !!.. That must be a guitar not to be moved around a lot I reckon. It must weigh a ton? Does it stay in tune OK? Blimey, is this the most pedals and knee levers anyone has ever had? Phew..No wonder it took me 2 hours to try and work out 8 - 10 seconds. I was trying bar slants, two feet on pedals and alsorts..

For the other forumites, here is Mikes copedant..

Doug Jernigan also played a fantastic version of the song at one of Gerry's Festivals.

I saw this guitar at the Waterloo show last weekend.
It is a fantastic guitar!
I believe that it used to belong to John Hughey.
It that correct Mike?
