Somehow a program called "Encompass" showed up on my PC, and frequently a message box appears saying the computer has found an "unrecognized database at Program Files/Encompass/billing.mbd"
What the heck is that program, where did it come from, what does it want from me, and is it safe to delete the directory?

I thought Encompass was some sort of Microsoft application, but I can't find any reference to it. |

Are you thinking of Encarta? That's an encyclopedia. |

Jack and Jon,
Everett's research DOES have the answer:
quote: "Billing.mdb" Error Message
While using the machine you constantly get a pop-up error message saying,
ENCMUPDT
Unrecognized database format 'C:\Program Files\Encompass\billing.mdb'.
This is the GTE ISP trial software which is preinstalled on the machine. To disable the billing reminder
messages completely, you can rename the Encompass directory to Encompass1. If you receive no
error messages from the system at startup or during normal use over the few days following this change,
and you expect not to use this software in the future, the Encompass (renamed to Encompass1)
directory can be deleted.
Interesting.
