Remember Fred Shannon

Post by Gene Jones »

My apology to Fred if that sounds like an obituary, but,I just want all your friends on the Forum to know that Fred (phred) are still alive and kicking.

Fred is fighting some health difficulties but is the same compassionate, and considerate person that he has always been.

Additionally, Fred is a bonofide war hero, having been shot down while a fighter pilot during the Korean War, and having to live with the results of a life time injury disability.

My apologies Fred, I know you don't want to hear any of this, but you can't hide from your service to your country.

I love Fred (phred) and I know that there are many others who would wish to add to that.

This is your chance to remember and acknowledge Fred's past participation on the Forum.

Thanks for the update Gene. I've been wondering about him. I remember something about his health issues.

I've never met him, only through this forum but I came to respect him a lot that way. Best wishes Phred.

I don't know you Fred. I've never met you or even spoken to you. But you now have my respect. Thank you, sir, for your sacrifices and service to our country and I wish you the best of health.

Fred is a member of the West Texas Steel Guitar Assn. He has always been a great encourager for we unconfident players. Always a great help, he and Dovie did most all of the videos on our Youtube channel. Fred has had some health problems and I am ashamed to say that I haven't heard anything about him in a while. I will see what I can find out as I am way overdue on checking on him. I always loved the story about him handstarting Bobby Seymours airplane at age 70 something. I don't know his story, but at one time I believe he was a reporter for the Dallas Morning News as he once gave an account, here on the Forum, of the Al Petty situation that landed Al in prison.

We did get in touch with Phred. He and Dovie are doing well. They have taken to raising border collies. Larry talked to Phred a bit and said he sounded well. He stopped coming to the West Texas Steel Guitar meetings because his hearing has gotten so bad. Larry is going to call him back and tell him you all were concerned about him and we hope maybe he will give us a post.

Thanks to everybody for remembering which is something I can't do because as of June the 30th of last year, the day of the stroke, I have absolutely no memory prior to that time nor can I hear anyone but Dovie's voice because of the hearing aides being frequency sensitive but I love you all and wish everyone well. Thanks Cowboy for the memories, what little there are, and God Bless this forum, one of the best things added to the steel quitar field.
