Finally going to break out my steel

Post by Christopher Woitach »

I wasn't sure if this is an event announcement, exactly, so I put it here...

Next Wednesday, May 4, 7:30 pm, I'm putting on a concert at Western Oregon University called "Car Music", which is all pop tunes, mostly 80's. They are all arranged (or should I say, deranged) for voice, vibes, trombone, and guitar or pedal steel guitar. I'll be playing steel on Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop", done as a jazz tango, and "Nothing Compares 2 U", as a slow moody thing with TONS of verb, delay, etc...

I was incredibly pleased at the rehearsal the other night to find my biggest worry, playing in tune with the vibes, to not be a problem at all. Whew!

I'll try to video the show and share it. My MSA Bb6 U-12 is truly a great sounding and playing guitar, and I'm very excited to get it out in the real world.

Cross your fingers for me!

Keller Coker, trombone, Sherry Alves, voice, and Adam Bates, vibraphone and sundry percussion. Great players - it should be a fun show.

Thanks, Paul - yes, that's me, solo guitar. That's the sort of approach I take on the steel, minus the 35 years of practice... I am trying to catch up, though!

Thanks for listening
