This has not been a good year for the Forum. I've gotten to the stage when I'm afraid to open the "Gone Home" section.
I never met Howard in person, but I always enjoyed our interactions. My condolences to his family and friends.

Howard Tate

I haven't been looking at this catagorie lately, so I'm late with my post. I got to Meet & jam with Howard twice at the Medicare Jam. Found him to be as nice, friendly, helpful steeler as any I'll ever meet. We'll miss him at the one coming up. Rest in peace Howard. My condolences to Charlene & family. Andy H.

I've been asked by Charlene via Bro. Gibson (Pastor) to let everyone know that there will be a Memorial Service in Leesville, LA at Smart & Son Funeral Home on Sat. 10/31/09 at 1:00PM the Rev. T.A. Gibson will be directing the service for our good friend and lover of the steel guitar. The family also wishes to express their thanks for all the thoughts and prayers you have offered to them. Howard was a "Beta Checker" for BIAB, and Ms. Charlene has requested that anyone on the executive board of BIAB be contacted to deliver the news of Howards passing. So, if any of you forum members happen to have any of this information, would you please pass it along. Thank-you's to all of the Steel Guitar Forum members and staff.

I did not know Howard, personally. But I have read his posts. And from what I gather, he was a good man that always had some good to say. It's sad that he is gone. But he is in that better place that we all talk about being at, someday. I pray that God will comfort his wife at this time. His Holy Angels surround her with thepeace and joy that is of God's Love. I pray for them ( Mr. Howard & Mrs. Charlene ) at this time. And ask that everyone remember the good memories of his life. The lives he touched when he was around.

Howard's last message to his friends on the forum was one of thanks and gratitude. We have lost a fine gentleman, and by this our commuity is diminished. I take comfort from seeing so many posting expressions of faith and belief here. Thank you, Howard, for being part of our virtual world, and my humblest and sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.

Mr. Howard lived a few miles down the road from me.

He was a positive presence and promoted sense of community here on the SGF.

That presence and his community building will remain alive here.

It's noteworthy of his last posts what the SGF meant to him in his last moments here on earth.

My prayers to his family.
