I was asked to post this by a guy, Ben Krieger with whom I have performed and recorded here in NY. There is nothing at all awkward about his request (that is to say, nothing weird like anybody putting me out of work--it's about finding performing partners in some out-of-town situations). Feel free to email me for anything regarding this.

NYC-based indie songwriter who usually performs with local pedal steel
players (Jon Light, Lawrence Lupkin) is looking to venture out into
nearby cities (Boston, D.C., Philly). Seeking pedal steel players based
in those areas who would be willing to initially provide sound samples,
learn a set of songs, and then perform a seat-of-your pants set every few
months or so. Songs are pop-oriented (Kinks, Westerberg)...players need
to be comfortable veering away from the traditional country sound on
occaision. Guaranteed minimum compensation for gigs, more if we make it.

Contact: bk@benkrieger.com for details.

That reads funny to me. I'm pretty sure what he means is "I will pay you a guaranteed fee. If I make a bunch of $$ on the show, I will share some of the wealth".

That actually sounds like my kind of gig, Jon! Maybe you can have him buzz me when he books Atlanta!

Ben's a nice guy and a straightforward guy to work with. I think the key part of Jon's post is the willingness to get of of the purely country mindset.

bump for a good dude who really digs what a steel brings to his music in a singer-songwriter/acoustic guitar--steel guitar duo setting.

Cool, Jim. I'll be sure to tell him that he hooked himself a 'real-deal' picker. I hope to hell he doesn't pull out anything from our recent recording session (that I was WAY less than happy with) to demo any of the material. IMO he'd be way better off giving you the same CDs he gave me and then enjoying the inevitably different colors & flavors you will bring to the table. Some of the material is a natural for steel, some you have to dig deep for.
