i'm takin' time out to raise my hat to the Ladies who don't abound in the Macho World of Steelin'
Barbara Mandrell and Sarah Jory are those that come to mind
i don't often see Ladies posting here on this Forum either
So...Could the Ladies stand up and be accounted for.
Yes ! Wives and Steady Dates can get in on this one too !

The trouble with most Svenska flickas is that they don't know their left hand from their right!

There's a female Russian steeler named Sasha Ostrovsky working with a band called Bering Strait. Supposedly appeared on the Opry a couple years ago. They do a nice job on "Does Moscow Ever Cross Your Mind" and "He's in the Gulag Now."

Hey, Crowbear... steel players are typically sidemen (i.e. musicians, not singers). In all my years of watching bands perform, I was hard pressed to find female side 'people'. I've seen a lot of women who can SING, but I've seen very few who can PLAY. However, things are slowly changing. I've seen a few female side musicians playing on the Grand Ole Opry - fiddlers, banjo pickers, even a couple of steel players. I think lead guitar is more 'macho' than steel. Hopefully that will change too.

Here's CASEY, an up and coming "girl" player...of course she has a famous steel-player for a teacher. (Does the Fender guitars give a hint?)

Back in the 50's there was an episode of the original Mickey mouse Club that featured a 6 year old girl named Jeannie Felis (that's probably not spelled right) singin and playing "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" om a 3 neck non pedal instrument. I have a tape of the performance if anybody wants to see it.

Let us not forget Joan Cox, and Donna Hammett, Margie Mays, Janis Zilm and Deloris Hancock.

And finally a warm welcome to the newest female member of this forum, England's Sue Parkhouse.
