I recently ordered two cds and the accompanying tab for the Seymour/Day Course from Bobbe Seymour.
Well, this is an excellent collection of tunes perfect for learning how to play the steel guitar.
The tunes are mostly covered up front by Jimmy Day, "Mr. Soul", then by either Bobbe or Tommy White.
The tempos are well chosen and not too fast.
The tabs that accompany this are accurate and easy to read.
The actual "head" of the tune is clearly played by Jimmy or Bobbe in a way that is really accessible for a new player like myself.
The rhythm tracks are great to work with after listening to the actual tune.
I wanted to let you know, Bobbe, you did a terrific job of putting such a useful and listenable collection of tunes together.
Getting Jimmy Day into the studio to record these was brilliant. He did such a good job especially on I Just Destroyed the World, and Lily Dale.
None of this is meant to leave out the incredible work of Tommy White. Tommy is simply an awsome and inspiring player.

No, really, THANK YOU for sharing your love of this instrument and music with us, and those of us trying to learn it.

Thankyou guys, It's nice to see hard work appreciated. We all worked hard on this project and it was Jimmy Day's last ever instrumental recording and I feel it was his very greatest as he has never played better in my opinion. We were planning another and were picking out tunes when he was stricken only days later. That project went on to become my "SOULFUL STEEL" album.Notice? They were all tunes that Jimmy did with "star" singers, Yes he was 'sposed to be there with me but it was not to be. It turned out to be a tribute CD instead,And I'm VERY sorry about that.

Thanks Steve Feldman, You really know tone when you hear it. Yes there is such a thing as great tone, good tone and ----whatever tone. Most tone today is pretty good tone but some is better than others.
Bill F.,I wish Jimmy could know what your saying about learning from him now, The greatest compliment one could give, thankyou Bill, your a good guy!

About a month or so ago, when I correctly answered the question that Donny Hinson posted over on the "Music" part of the forum, I won my choice of two CD's. This CD was one of my choices, as Bobbe is one of my favorite players.
I agree with the above posts stating how good it is. A great selection of songs, performed by some of the best in the business. Truly as the name says, A Masters Collection.

The "Masters" Album is a great piece of work and should be in everyones' collection. I picked mine up at Bobbes' last year and am really enjoying it. I stopped in at Bobbes' place, in May of this year, at closing time, and Bobbe was gracious enough to spend quite some time talking about steel guitars, steel players, airplanes and other interesting subjects. I purchased his "Soulfull Steel" album and literally played it all the way back to Omaha. It stays in my van CD player. Folks, this is one of the best steel albums I have ever heard! It will be a classic someday. If great steel playing gives you chill bumps you can turn this one up to about 110 db and freeze to death. Bobbe, you need to share your "Tone" secrets with us.

I was listening to this CD yesterday, and I must echo what others have said here...it is Jimmy Day at his best! This CD has some of the smoothest steelwork you'll ever hear, and I think it's an essential for every steel player who appreciates good country music. Thanks for giving it to us, Bobbe.  |
