Two things the technologically-challenged probably don't need are 1) a pedal steel and 2) a computer.
My LaserWriter 4/600 is not getting recognized by the hard drive I'm trying to "upgrade" to OS 9.1. It works (intermittently at least) on the drive with OS 8.1. I've tried different versions of LaserWriter 8 (the printer driver) and various re-installs of OS 9.1: booting from the installer CD, extensions off, clean install, custom install, etc. AppleTalk is active, though there's no network involved--the printer is connected to the beige G3's printer port.
The cable connection looks clean enough, but I cleaned it a bit more. Is there a substance which enhances connectivity? Axle grease? Are computer cables generally weak links (the way audio cables can be?)
I'll be making the rounds some more at the MacHelp sites I'm aware of, but who knows? Maybe I can "get by with a little help from my friends."
Thanks,
Jeff
