I just loaded Version 11. It's a must. You can now load an existing Midi in and it will translate the chords in BIAB... Lots of new Country Styles as well.

Hey Chet, have you tried any of the country styles yet? What are they like compared to the country styles that come with the basic BIAB version 10? I really don't like the country styles that I have neard so far from BIAB. Do any of the new ones sound good for classic honky tonk or 4/4 shuffle country styles?

Steve,
Have you tried the 'GUMBO.STY' in v.10 -
It's a 4/4 triplet - mute the guitar and
strings and it may come close to what
you want.

Thanks Russ, I'll give it a try. A couple of the country guitar solo styles work in a pinch, 07 and 35 I think. But I'll definitely give gumbo a try.

Have not tried all yet. I was so excited when I loaded in a midi file and it determined the chords and broughtit up in the window. Now you can do anything you want to it for example.... change the chords, loop it thru the course a couple of times, add and intro and ending, change the key and even change the Style and write out a new midi file... all in a couple of minutes. Just that feature alone is worth it. I'll be spending more time with it this evening....

Well Jack, after reading Chet's post I got my credit card out and ordered BIAB V 11 along with styles 28 and 29. I downloaded it because I could not wait for the disks to arrive. There ars some good "new" country styles in there if you like new country. I have not played all of them yet and would be happy with just a couple of Hank Thompson styles, I will mix and match them till I get what Im looking for. The pit just got a little deeper Jack.I thought I saw the bottom of it but I was wrong again. However BIAB is the greatest program out there for making yer own backin tracks.

Dan, I'm a great Hank Thompson Fan... You know his recordings 40 years ago still can compete with the quality of some recorded today. I know he's had a lot of good Steel players, and I love'm all... If you should find a style or create a style that fit's
his, please let me know... I'll do the same.

Hey Fellas,
I just checked BIAB and
I'm running version 9d.
Can you go from vers.9d to vers.11 without going thru vers.10?

I looked on BIAB's site and found that
version 10.0 was missing. All the other versions of 10.0 were listed, however.

According to what I read, you have to have V10 in order to use the V11 update.

PG Music "gotcha". You have to buy all the updates....

PGMusic website implies to me that you can update to V11 from any version. They they 2 update options, one from V10 for $49 & one from V9 & earlier for $59. They are running a special up to 12/31 which includes a bonus "8 pak".

I don't know if you guys belong to the BIAB File sharing Group, and/or the BIAB Independent Users Group or not... But you should.. The BIABIUG talks about some subtle bugs, nothing major, but would help you stay abreast of what's going on.. Not meaning to Imply you don't already know what's going on?

I went ahead and downloaded the upgrade (I am too impatient to wait for the mail). The first thing I tried was to import (load) a MIDI file. It did a fair job. The chords seemed to come out ok (some empty bars were inserted), but the melody track got screwed up. The melody was several bars behind the chords. This happened on a number of different MIDI files. It's a good thing that feature is not the only reason I upgraded.

Richard... It appears that the Midi opens into what ever style is selected at the time.
I had to mess around with different styles. But the couple that I tried interpeted the changes ok. I'm still learning..

Oh Yes, while reading some messages in the Band in a Box Independant Users Group, there seems to be a problem with receiving Styles 27. There are two different screens to order from. Be sure you order from the right one.. I.e. It tells you it includes the additional styles. I got mine alright, but others are complaining as they didn't get #27...

I got vers.11 about 2 hours ago; but haven't even looked at it yet.

Don't worry about waiting for the software to arrive days later. When you order, BIAB sends you the software in the mail.

BUT...once you've paid the price, you can download the program right now. If they don't come thru with everything intact, you will have the software CD shortly.

BIAB does state they are not a 'download only' site, and, you may encounter download gliches; just like anything you download from the WWW - it's a crap... or more realistically, "crappyshoot".

I recommend BBfinder 4.0 by Stefano Lazzaretto for those of you who have a couple hundred or more of BIAB files. Just search BBFINDER and you can try it out. To register, you cough 20 bucks. It's a winner.

By the way, I have version 11. You jump from 9 to eleven, for 10 bucks additional.

What does BBFinder do? Provide a list of your BIAB song files? I keep my song files in separate sub folders in the BIAB folder, not intermingled with the program files. Keeps it a lot cleaner and I know where and what song files I have (also easy to backup since they are in separate directories).

BBFinder is a song browser for the PGMusic program “Band in a Box”. It searches for BIAB songs in your hard disk, no matter the folder in which they reside, and displays their title, filename, folder, size, date, style and lyrics/melody presence. You can delete, move, rename, compare song files, search for a title, delete duplicates, and send a song to Band in a Box for playing and editing. It can manage up to 32767 song files and long file names are supported.

I just received my BIAB 11 Disks. There is a instruction movie on there which shows in great detail ho to make your own styles. It is the best instruction I have seen so far. Since I installed my BIAB from PG's download site I browsed the CD and found the video. There is also a video on the melody maker.
