Hello again. I forgfot how much I used to enjoy hanging out here!
I have a Music Man combo amp that was in mint shape when I bought a few years ago. It has not left the house. It was not covered though and looks dirty.
What can I used to clean the tolex back to pretty shape?
In the past I used Armor All, but it covered the dirt into the textue and then I was never able to get it clean. This time I want to clean this amp first and then treat it with a product.
Soap and Water? Fantastic?, 409? What do you guys use. This amp is in such nice shape, I want to keep it that way.

Try to find a bottle of "Spray Nine". Thats what we used at the factory.
Armor All will give it the shine,but will not remove the grit and accumulation of dirt. |

| 409 or Fantastic and a nylon scrub brush. Use a wet/damp towel to pull out the loosed dirt and soapy residue. |

I just use Windex with a (natural bristle) scrub brush, and then wipe it off with an old turkish-towel. I follow with some spray furniture wax, like Pledge. (Armour-All leaves a greasy, oily appearance that I don't care for.)
Also, I wouldn't advise using Formula 409, as I had a friend that used it on an old Silvertone amp, and it took off all the silkscreening (Vol., Tone, and control numbers) that was on the front panel! |
