| My steel player wants to know what a good all purpose effects processor is for pedal steel. He also wants to know if it is possible to use some kind of distortion or effect to make his pedal steel sound like lap steel. We want to get a wider variety of tones out of his steel. |

There is a very broad and simple effects processor called Boss RV 3. It has everything you said. You can even rig it up to set right on a leg of your steel!

John--I've left this alone because it's not my area but since nobody's giving you much--
Peavey has several rackmount multi-units that a lot a steelers use--Profex, Profex 11, Tubefex (with a tube in it) and Transtubefex (without). These have a bunch of stuff that you can chain together--pretty much all the distortion, modulation and reverb/delay sutff you will find in a multi-effector. They are well regarded. They also maybe be overkill--depending on what your steel dude is looking for he may be happy with a delay box and a distortion box. Or a floor multi stomp box. Some forum members use Zoom units. They may be enough for his needs. (They are inexpensive and, from what I have seen, built that way too).
Even with the versatile Peavey multis, a lot of steelers just use a touch of reverb, a smidge of delay, and a pinch chorus.

I know Joe Wright uses a ProCo Ratt pedal for distortion and several other folks use Ibanez TubeScreamers - I think the older ones (?) are more in demand, but the new ones are supposed to be pretty good. Try doing a search here on the Forum on distortion/effects or something like that. You'll probably get loads of info.

| John, Have him take a look at the Peavey Session 2000 amp. It has all the built in effects a guy could need, with the exception of rock distortion. Check of the Peavey website for a full discription. |
