Wayne,
I use a DD-3 and here's roughly how I set it.
My pedal is packed away in my van right now so I'll just have to describe how I set it. First of all, the right-most knob should be set in the 3rd position from the left. (Or next to last position, same thing)
Set the second knob to about 8:00 (so you can hear 3 repeats but the last one is barely audible). Set the third knob at about 10:00 or 11:00.
I usually leave these knobs alone when I play, only changing the first knob to fit the style I'm playing. For slower to medium tempo tunes, set the first knob at about 11:00 and for quicker chicken-pickin' type tunes set it at about 7:00 or 8:00 for a slapback delay.
Of course all this should be adjusted to your taste but I hope it gives you a starting point.
Have fun, the DD-3 is a great unit.

Wayne,
I used my pedal last night and after looking at it I need to ammend my reply to you. In my mind I had the first and third knobs switched around. I usually set the first one at about 10:00 or 11:00 and then I adjust the delay time with the third knob to fit the style of song I am playing. Sorry for any confusion.

Try setting the delay time to the same time as the song, so the echoes fall on the beat. If you want more depth, the First knob set between 12 and 1 oclock will put you down the road about 1/2 mile. BTW, this is a great delay pedal. I have had mine since 1986, and other than wearing out the external power supply, I have had NO trouble with it. Sure beats the old tape echoes. I don't think the sound is quite as good, but, NO BROKEN TAPES, or if the heads got dirty, it sounded like a wind up record player that needed winding. Great product and easy to carry around. JMO
