My Matchbox 7A is making scratchy noises like what you hear when your pot is going on your volume pedal. Although this only happens when I engage the volume pedal, it is NOT the pedal itself.

So, I've got the back off of this thing here, and I see closed input and output jacks, and a couple of 'mod pot clarostats' for the tone and gain knobs, respectively. In between these pots is a small circuit board with a couple of 'firecracker-looking things' and a plug-in 8-pin chip. The two batteries are OK, I believe.

Anyone know how to troubleshoot which pot it is? I can't seem to isolate it by playing. And can you get these from Goodrich (or anywhere else)?

Thank-you much.
Steve

It's probably best and easiest to send it back to Goodrich. They fixed my MatchBro last year for $25 and it's worked great ever since!

Many times a coupling capacitor will go bad and act just like a scratchy pot.

If it's not batteries then the best thing is to send it back to Goodrich.

Steve - I had that same problem one time. As it turned out, I did not have the output cord (on the bottom) plugged in all the way. I have no idea why the volume pedal would make the scratching noise, but it did.

Hi Steve:
I have 2 model 7A mathchbox and I am experiencibg the same problem. One unit has developed quite a bit of noise and the other is just starting to get noisy. The units are about a year old and were quiet when I first got them. I am sending my units back for inspection.
