| I replaced the Black Widow speaker in my Nashville 400 with a JBL 15" K 130 4 ohm speaker. I think the sound of the amp now is much sweeter. It also has the Peavey mod in it. My question is this: is the speaker overload protection (compressor) circuit in the amp compatible with this speaker and power handling capacity or can some changes be made to the circuit to prevent blowing the speaker or damaging the amp. |

You're not going to damage the amp, but that
speaker isn't really designed to handle 200
watts. The easiest way to protect it is
to put an "in line" fuse on one of the speaker lines. That will blow first instead
of the speaker coil. You'd have to figure
around a 5 amp fuse to protect a speaker
that will handle 100 watts (if I remember
the formula right). |

The DDT(distortion detection technique) circuit is a patented circuit which senses oncoming clipping in the power amplifier. The speaker parameters do not affect how the circuit acts when used with a certain speaker.
In other words, what the DDT circuit does is gives you a visual indication of when clipping of the amplifier is about to occur. When the DDT light is blinking, your signal is still clean, but when it stays lit, you should either back down on your volume, or obtain additional power and speaker enclosures to reach a desired increased volume. However, this may also indicate that adjustments need to be made to your amp volume controls.
