Topic: Need help - fuse on Mesa Boogie studio preamp? |

What size should the fuse on my Mesa Boogie studio preamp be? The fuse itself says: 250V and 500mA. On the back of the preamp it says 117V and 1 ΒΌ A.

Iam not familiar with your preamp but I would follow the rating stamped on the unit. In your case a 1.25 amp fuse rated at 125 volts or higher. A fuse rated at a current < 1.25 amps would also be ok, but depending on the design and derating it my blow open when you may not want it to.
Fuses are also slow blow types or normal fast blow types. If your preamp uses tubes then likely a slow blow fuse is used. If it is solid state then it's likely a normal or fast blow fuse. I can't be specific as I am not familiar with your device.
It look's like someone replaced the fuse with the incorrect value. |

| Those rating are roughly equivalent (volts times amps equals watts). What is the line voltage in your part of the world? I suspect that the panel is printed for the US, but the transformer is wired for European voltage. |

The preamp is all tube. I bought it in USA (110V) and do use a converter to take down the current 220V here in Norway to 110V who is what this needs. I think the 117V at the back just states that this is a US type and have nothing to do about the fuse, but I`m not sure. To me it seems like the 500 milli ampere fuse inside it was to small. I did blow it by the way. I`ve used this converter succesfully with solid state equipment and it can take up to 1600 Watts.
If someone who got a Mesa Boogie Studio preamp could check what size the fuse should be I`ll be very happy.

Dag, I'm quoting this excerpt verbatim, directly from my Mesa Studio Preamp owner's manual.
"Line Fuse: The Studio Preamp is protected by a 1 1/4 amp fuse when operating on 100-120 V. AC. Should the fuse blow, replace it with a Slo-Blo fuse of the same amperage".

Thanks guys, I couldn`t find a 1,25A fuse but I replaced the 500 milliAmp with a 1A and its now working. Thanks a lot,
