Group,
Are there any differences (besides the obvious cosmetic differences) between a Console Grande and a Consolette ??

I am NOT a Gibson expert, but I was always under the impression that the Consolette was a lower grade instrument/an ecconomy version of the "pro" Console Grande(?). That could mean chaper wood, maybe and cheaper hardware and maybe even pick-ups...

Having spent years in the musical retail biz., as I recall, the consolette was the lower quality of the two models. For one thing, it did not have the high gloss sunburst finish which was found on the Grande Console. Also, (and my memory might be really failing), I don't recall it having two neck levels as did the GC. The ones I remember were a blonde finish, but again, memory fails. That was back in the late forties and early fifties....some 50 years ago....it's amazing I can recall my own name!!!! |

My Gibson Consolette has two neck levels,
P 90 soap bar pick ups and has a glossy sunburst finish. I don't know about the hardware comparison. It certainly is smaller and lighter.
