A friend of mine has a style 1 tricone by continental.
Very sweet.
Doesn't have the punch and sustain of my National polychrome but it is good to play all the same.
Nicely finished, good build quality.

Thats my few pennies worth.

Bill you're national sounds good for two reasons, one is that national cones are better and the other is that steel makes a better sounding tricone than yellow brass, like the Style 1's and Continentals are made from.
I recently finished and sold a steelbody cutaway tricone. Take a look at it and my other guitars here http://members.fortunecity.com/terapln/home1.html

Ah, a perfect example of where opinions vary.

I've listened and played both the National Resophonic Style 1 and Polychrome tricones and preferred the sound of the Style 1, which had a more "refined" sound to my ears.

Nothing wrong with the polychrome, just liked the Style 1 better.

No Doubt Bill, and that's what makes the world interesting.
I think steel sounds more like the original German Silver ones, and that the yellow brass models, including an old Style 97 I had don't have quite as good a tone, and less punch.
I'm planning on doing a GS one soon, I'll let you know what the result is.

Also you can get a GS model from Continental through the custom shop.
