The one station I know around here (near Sacramento, CA) that plays (well, played) some of the older, harder-core country music will no longer do so. KRAK, which had broadcast country music for 38 years, was sold to ABC Radio. Until the deal is finalized, KRAK is supposed to simulcast from sister station KNCI, a New Country FM station. One of the long-time DJ's Jim Hall, was told of the sale 15 minutes before going on the air for his last show! He himself told listeners just before the final station break.

According to the Sacramento Bee, KRAK "went country" on October 1, 1962; it was a 50,000-watt station. It twice won Billboard's radio station of the year award. In 1994, KRAK was moved to another position on the dial to make room for sister station Sports 1140, and reduced to a measly 5000-watt signal, diminishing to 1000 watts on some winter nights. Now it's history.

The Bee said that two of the DJs and the program director hope to shop the "Gold Country" format to another station in Sacramento. Good luck to them!
Cheers, (sort of)
