George Strait "You're Stronger Than Me"

Just got back from the Target store with my new George Strait CD, "George Strait". The ad in the paper said it came with two George Strait PC screen savers, exclusively at Target Srores. I thought they would be inside the jewel box but not a thing in there. So maybe there on the CD. I put it in the drive and clicked on my CD ROM and there they were. So if you have one check it out.
Let's check everyones memorey though. Who recorded "You're Stronger Than Me" quite a few, make that a bunch of years back? I have every CD I can find of the guys recordings of his old songs but it's not on any of them. I do how ever have an LP with it on. And hey Paul F, you don't get to play cause i'm sure it was talked about in the studio.

If so then Patsy Cline did two versions of it, one was a clone of "I fall to Pieces" arrangement, the other similar in speed and structure to "She's got you"

I used to play this with a singer who had just gone through a painful divorce. He really sang it from the heart, and it touched me every time.

I think my singer friend said it was a Ray Price tune, but I never heard the original recording. We played it in the classic Ray Price style.

Bobby your friend is right. It’s on the LP “Love life”. I was real
lucky an found a like new used one at a garage sale. Had the first
one wore out. I’ts got what might be Mel Tillis first song he
wrote and got recorded on it called “All Right” (I’ll Sign The
Papers) on it and of course later on he had a big hit with Mel’s
“One More Time”.
But the best one on it is “Cold Cold Heart”. He sings it in F and
Big E does the 2nd break in high F up to the 27th fret.
I have an LP of George Jones that has “She Thinks I Still Care”
and a lot of big hits plus a song written by Autry Enman, “She
Once Lived Here” and I can’t find that on CD either. Autry had
one big hit, “Lets Take the long way Home Through The Park”.
It’s a real pretty George Jones song sang as only Jones can do it
and I can’t find it on CD.
Anyway George Strait does a good job on “You’re Stronger Than
Me” and Hank Cochran is gonna get a good pay check off it this
time. It does list Jimmy Key as co-writer.

I've never really looked for a CD. I spent my high school years working in a record shop, so I learned early on to take care of vinyl. Most of my records are in near-mint condition. So were the jackets, until we got the cat!

Bob, my singer friend must have had that LP too. He also liked to sing Cold, Cold Heart in the Ray Price style, with a walking bass. It sure was fun playing it that way.

Bobby, I play bass also and I can get lost in another world playing songs like that. I have a bunch of those old songs I put on tape to pratice my steel with because the more I play the same songs over and over the more chances I have of finding a new way of doing it. But when I want get serious about learning I get my Emmons Expo E9th tab out.

I prefer the slower, non "I fall to Pieces" Arrangement so much that I cloned the arrangement for backing traks and perform it as an instrumental in a "Jimmy Day" kinda style (real close to the melody with lots of feeling) .
Patsy's performance is so emotionally charged and stylistically intense that it outshines her other performance of the tune by a lot... and don't get me wrong,the uptempo version is GREAT, I just prefer the slower one.

The George Jones cut of "She Once Lived Here" is available on CD. A collection called "She Thinks I Still Care" it has 2 CD's in it 40 songs. a lot of his material for United Artists Records 1962-65. Hope this helps you. Jason

Jason Powers I sure want to thank you for the info on "She Once Lived hear". Just in case I can't find it in stock would you post the CD number so I can order it. And I'd guess I'm not the only Jones fan on the Forum.
Is it just me or do you think George is at his best on that one. The chord progression is a little differant than most of the songs he sings. Thanks again,

Jason you don't have to get me the number of "You Comb Her Hair" I called four places here in Flagstaff and they didn't have it so I ordered in from ET's Record shop about 20 min after I made that last reply. It's also got "Root Beer" ,which Is on the same LP on It so It might also have somemore I don't have. Thanks again,

It's kind of strange how songs can be popular in some parts of the country and other parts have never even heard it. Take "You Comb Her Hair". The only version i'd heard of that song was by Jones and it appears to have been cut half a dozen people.
