Question for Don McLean Fans?

I know this is the Country Music site but ol' Don is country as he features it a lot on his live shows if not on recordings. The question I have is about a song of his. Last Saturday on PBS there was a Don McLean concert with various guests of which one was Garth Brooks. On Garth's spot he did one on Don's songs which I am trying to get the lyrics to. I've tried his website and discography but I can't find a title which relates to the words I remember. The short chorus lyrics are something like: AND I WONDER IF YOU KNOW.....THAT I NEVER UNDERSTOOD.....THAT ALTHOUGH YOU SAID YOU'D GO....UNTIL YOU DID...I NEVER THOUGHT YOU WOULD.......Although I'm not the biggest Garth Fan in the world he did a great job on this song. Any help with the title would be greatly appreciated.

I think the song is "Vincent" and is about Vincent VanGogh. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone else will jump in with the correct answer.

Hey Brad,
I appreciate the reply but it's a different song. Don sang Vincent himself. This one was a minor hit and not near as famous as Vincent or American Pie. Thanks again.

The song you're thinking of is on Don's first album, American Pie, and is entitled "Winterwood."
