Would someone please post some Hank Williams/Don Helms licks for E9th that can be used in a specific song or for any Hank Williams song.
Looking for that "Don Helms sound" on E9th.
I did do a search and found a couple b0b had posted.
The more the better.

| Don't have any tab, but the way to get that '50s 6th neck lap steel style on E9 is to hold the A and B pedals down, which gives you an A6 neck, and play it like a lap steel, without using any pedaled bends or knee levers. Also, I don't think Don Helms used slants much. He played a very straight lap steel style. And don't worry too much about being on the exactly proper chord fret. A lot of that style comes from using the 6th chord as a movable chord, letting it fall where it may beneath the melody being played by sliding up and down a single high string. |

Another way to get the old E13 sound on the E9 is to lower your second string D# to C#. That will give you the old Hank sound.

Here's an idea: get the fantastic "your Cheatin' Heart" songbook from Scotty's( I just looked, and I don't think b0b stocks it here). It has tabbed arrangements pretty much note for note from Don Helm's hank tracks. They use just the first six strings of his tuning, high to low: G#-E-C#-B-G#-E. Obviously the same notes as E9, using the A pedal to get the C# note. With just a little foling around you can get all the licks right from the master.
Be ready for a couple of surprises, in how Don uses positions you wouldn't normally think of to get his sound without slants. Very eye-opening.
