Hi

wonder which tunings(8 string) will be perfect for those pull-offs/hammer-ons/trills (don't know how to call it) used in a lot of western swing and vintage hillbilly steel playing ??!!

Please help, maybe someone has a cool lick to post !

In any major chord tuning, there are a lot of scale notes at the first and second frets that can be hammered. I do that a lot in E and D tunings. For example, in E13:

G# __0__1--0________________________________
E ___________2--0________0_________________
C# _________________________________________
B _________________0--2_____2--0___________
G# ________________________________1--0--1__
E ______________________________________0__
D _________________________________________
B _________________________________________
E7 A

The correct name is Buddy.
And I'm pretty sure that's C6, but b0b is right. Any tuning will allow you to approximate that type of trill. Unless I'm mistaken it's chromatic -- just an open string hammered on to the first fret repeatedly.

Sounds cool though, doesn't it?
